2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Packs 797 Horsepower

By Patrick Rall, LXFORUMS Editorial Staff

2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Packs 797 Horsepower

    11:30am EST Embargo Time – 6/28/18

The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye becomes the most powerful American road car for 2019.

Dodge has once again raised the bar in the muscle car segment, introducing the 2019 Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye with 797 horsepower and 707 lb-ft of torque. That output makes the Redeye Challenger the most powerful production street car from an American automaker for 2019 while also being the second-most powerful production street car ever from an American brand – trailing only the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.

“With 840 horsepower, a 9.65 quarter-mile time and Guinness World Record certification that it’s the first production car to lift the wheels at launch, the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon earned its place in the record books,” said Steve Beahm – Head of Passenger Cars, Dodge//SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA North America. “The Dodge Brothers would be proud that we’re leveraging the power and performance of this proven engine to bring a Demon-possessed Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye to an even wider high-performance enthusiast audience.”

    Demon-Like Power
We have known for some time now that the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat would get a new hood, but as we suspected, this hood is more than just an aesthetic upgrade. This dual-snorkel hood is one of the three entry points for engine intake air in the 2019 Hellcat, working with the driver’s side headlight and an inlet in the wheel well to draw cold air into the newest supercharged Hemi.

Under the new hood of the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye is a similar 6.2-liter Hemi to the one in the 2018 Demon. The Redeye has the 2.7-liter supercharger, the stronger rotating assembly, the stronger valve train, the oiling system and the fuel system of the Demon, but at 14.5 pounds of boost, the Redeye “only” makes 797 horsepower and 707 lb-ft of torque compared to the Demon’s pump gas numbers of 808 horsepower and 717 lb-ft of torque.

All of that power is sent through a standard 8-speed automatic transmission, the strengthened driveshaft and the 41-spline axles from the Demon. A 2.62 gear is standard, but Redeye buyers can opt up to a 3.09 ratio, just like the Demon.

In addition to the hard parts from the Demon, the 2019 Challenger Hellcat Redeye features the SRT Power Chiller, the After-Run Chiller, Line Lock and Launch Control with Torque Reserve. For those unfamiliar with these systems, the SRT Power Chiller uses the air conditioning system to cool the intercooler, the After-Run Chiller reduces engine temperatures when the car is not running, Line Lock assists with burnouts by locking the front wheels and the Launch Control system with Torque Reserve allows the car to launch with 3.9 pounds of boost pressure – leading to a 55% increase in launch torque.

Finally, the Redeye is available in standard-width or widebody form, but it does not come with the drag radials from the Demon. Instead, the 797-horsepower Challenger Redeye comes with the standard 275-millimeter Pirelli PZero tires with the narrow body or 305-millimeter PZeros with the widebody package.

    Quarter Mile Times
As a result of the added power and gadgetry, the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye is able to cover the quarter mile in just 10.8 seconds while hitting a speed of 131 miles per hour in widebody form, while the standard-width Redeye package runs an 11.1 at the same speed.

Some of you might be wondering how the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye isn’t quicker than that, as the 2018 Hellcat Widebody runs 10.8s and the original Hellcat Challenger runs 11.2, so how does 90 horsepower not improve track times by a greater margin?

That comes down to the tires. The standard Hellcat with 707 horsepower has traction issues, so the same tires on a car with 90 more horsepower isn’t going to get off of the line any quicker, but it will pull harder down-track. As a result, the elapsed times aren’t much better than the standard Hellcat, but the Redeye hits a much higher speed in the quarter mile. As Redeye owners add drag radials, we are sure to see quarter mile times in the low-10-second range.

Also, the Redeye has a top speed of 203 miles per hour in both standard-width and widebody form.

    Hellcat Layout Elsewhere
While the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye has the engine and drivetrain bits from the Demon, it does not come with the Demon’s lightweight interior. Instead, this 797-horsepower package comes with the same plush interior as the original Hellcat Challenger, with the key differences being a 220-mile per hour speedometer and a unique Redeye image on the start-up screen. This includes a heated steering wheel with paddle shifters, the award-winning UConnect infotainment system and a premium sound system. For the first time, cloth seats are standard on all Hellcat models, but there are three different leather packages for the standard Hellcat and the Redeye.

Next, unlike the lightweight brakes in the Demon, the Hellcat Redeye features the 15.4-inch rotors and 6-piston Brembo brake calipers up front with slightly smaller rotors and 4-piston rotors out back. Also, the Redeye comes with the Hellcat’s Drive Mode system with adaptive dampers, adaptive electric power steering and the exterior design, but the Redeye does feature a new optional wing for 2019 with a completely different design from the original Hellcat spoiler.

There is no pricing available for the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye, but we know that production of all 2019 Challengers will begin this fall with the first units hitting dealerships during the fourth quarter of this year.

The market value for Demons just skidded to a halt and started rolling backwards.

Maybe. All the Demons were already sold, right? I mean nobody thought they were going to appreciate anyways. Don't think this changes much.

The Demon is still the (much) better drag car with a 0-60 time that's a half-second better than the Redeye and a quarter-mile time that's more than a second better. The Redeye has some of the tech from the Demon but not all of it.

Suppose there is any chance that a Redeye will be available for the Charger?

    .
Sure, no one, assuming we exclude 90% of the guys who bought a demon.

This must be the new "Triple Nickel" paint. It says it's "all new" so not sure if it's a renamed color like Contusion Blue was Jazz Blue.

It does look like the old Silver.

Agreed. I think the Charger Hellcat is still the fastest sedan in the world right? I wish they would have improved on that. Give it 797 and see where it takes you! Bet they could hit 210.

Did I miss something? Scat Pack now get the SRT adaptive suspension as an option? I am seeing this on several press releases for both SP Charger/Challenger since no SRT offered. Scat Pack pretty much gets the goodies now plus an original Hellcat hood. I am tempted again at a Challenger. Need to see the dark dub new interior unless that is limited to the Charger, need to see the new interiors as well. The RedEye is nice and I bet you can get ACC with it unlike a Demon? If that is triple nickel. maybe different paint code from billet? This looks more like a real silver like Ford ingot silver. I always thought billet was kinda more of a light grey metallic.

Noticed in announcements that SP now gets the SRT drive modes and SRT performance pages standard..... so no need for the Tazer unlock method for 2019? No idea if that will trickle down for the Charger version including the 3 mode suspension option? The Challenger wide body looks so much better for the wide wheels than the 2018+ Mustang PP2 Package which does have wide wheels and tires but they stick out from the fenders and probably throw up lots of rocks.

I didn't think that was legal. Thought the fenders had to cover the wheels
