Hey everyone, so my 07 hemi Magnum has 128k on it. Bought it with 89k on it 3 or 4 years ago. So far I've done valve cover gaskets and oil changes, plugs. I need to know should I be worried about the timing chain guide issues, water pump, rear main seal leakage, lifter issues, oh and valve seat issue!
I did have the cooling fans fall off the motors at the same time and didn't catch it right away about 1.5 years ago and I've been monitoring the antifreeze and it consistently is disappearing. I did the color change liquid test but it showed no signs of exhaust in the cooling system. I'm thinking it has a small head gasket leak. I'm considering doing new head gaskets and since I'm there addressing other stuff, just don't know what I should do while it's apart.
The car is a keeper and just want to be proactive. It's our travel car and don't want to be stuck on side of highway! No bueno!
Thanks in advance for your help!
Brian
I bought mine new and I have never had to add coolant except when changing it. If you are removing the heads for gasket replacement, I think I would get the valve seats replaced and replace the timing set.
I bought mine recently with 195K, and the coolant cap was not OEM. It leaked, so I just bought a new cap, and replaced a couple of the major hoses. All was well. I would do a coolant flush though..
Thanks 2005rtmag and ironranger. I was suspicious of the radiator cap so I did replace it with an oem one but still no change. I think I have a very slight head gasket leak.
I dont know if the RT radiator is the same as the SRT radiator and maybe it doesn't matter, but the radiator on my car had the minutest of a leak just above the top hose connection inside the fins and more or less hidden by the hose and the radiator support bracket. I had a very minor loss of coolant and at the time didn't think much of it - but the fans were replaced under warranty and the tech noticed it and from what I recall, they replaced the radiator under warranty. The leak was so small that any residual liquid on the radiator surfaces evapourated almost immediately. Might want to look into that before you take the engine apart?
I lost fluid on my maiden voyage from Arkansas to St.Louis, bought the car used with 94k. I was so unfamiliar with the car I thought the coolant resivoir was the over flow tank only. It had about an inch of fluid in it and I thought nothing of it, until I looked it up online. I had a O'sh!t moment after realizing I drove it for 7hrs the prior night. Luckily my temp tach never went over half way as far as I recall. I monitor it now along with checking the oil regularly. Last fall I discovered the leak was coming from my thermostat housing , the Tstat o-ring was torn.
I ended up buying a lot of coolant related parts off RA, after reading nightmare situations here on the forums. I'm currently driving around today with Prestone cleaner/ distilled water in my system, minus the heater core. Flushing and rinsing tomorrow, followed by a SRT radiator and Doorman XD fan installation. Maintenance is so essentially and so often neglected on our cars.
Kind of funny... I've gone from fixing a transmission plug harness leak to discovering the coolant leak, and now (last night) discovering a valve cover gasket leak with a small daily drip above the cats, both sides of the motor. Ahhhh... fun, lol!
