6.4 hemi from a truck in a Cuda

Looking to do the 3rd Gen hemi thing for my 73 Cuda. I’m considering the Hellcrate engine. But I’ve been told that for around the same price, or maybe a little more, a 6.4 can be built with way better parts, more reliable and more power. Now I have a line on a 6.4 out of a truck. 2015 motor. I’m not sure what the downside of using a truck engine is. Also not sure what I would actually use besides the block. HP goal is in the 800 range. Whipple, complete rotating assembly, cam, heads, etc is kind of the direction I will be going. Unless I just say screw it and get a hellcrate.

Is a truck 6.4 a good starting point. I read somewhere that the front covers or something like that were different. Tried asking on a few different forums, but I think the 3rd Gen hemi experts would be here! Thanks guys.

I'm using a 2017 BGE long block from a Ram for my 300S eng, with some mods, E-force with 10lbs for one. The BGE is what the Hellcat eng started with. Best 6.4 block and heads structurally out there. Google will show a lot of info. Paid 4900 for a turn key eng with 6 mile, selling all the other parts I don't need to offset cost.

If you are gonna build your own motor, BASED on the truck 6.4 you prob be ok.
But the truck 6.4 is a totally different animal then the car engine.
Truck motor was designed for torque and durability while under load(think hauling)

And I have been told is a beast, but it doesn't make the same HP as the car.
Besides the tune, it has a bunch of different parts then the car.

Again the truck 6.4 can still be a good engine, and a good build, maybe in some cases even better then starting with the car short block, but you cant just take one from a wrecked truck slap it in a car, and keep up with other car 392's.

I have read that the crank, rods and mains are different, again being designed to be tough as nails, not fast as hell, LOL!!!
I will try and find the write up I read on it, was FULL of great info, maybe helpful to you.

That would be fantastic if you could find that article. I have actually committed to buying the truck motor. The guy who is probably going to build my engine did get back to me and said it should be a good motor to start with. He basically said I’m buying the 6.4 truck motor for the block, crank, heads and valve covers. He said the truck heads when cnc ported flow better than the Apache heads, or at least will flow good enough for my 800 hp target. Intake will be replaced with a whipple supercharger.

I will look tomorrow after work.
Again if he is gonna tear it apart, and change parts then he may be right maybe the block is better.
I know I was doing some homework, before I bought my diesel Ram, and was looking at a 6.4 Ram, and thought hw bad ass it would be, and then I found out how different the engines are.
And it makes a lot of sense, I was actually impressed with all the things they did to help with durability, in case you are running the truck under max load, for so long. (years)
I will def look for it, it was in like Mopar action, or a mag like that, around when the 6.4 first started showing up in the trucks.
