Yes, that is accurate, especially on the pre-canbus cars. That is exactly how it worked, and since the SKIM and RKE were separate modules on those old cars, the fobs would continue to unlock the doors etc. However, our CANbus cars have the SKIM and RKE combined into one module, usually now called SKREEM. If you disconnect this module, the new refurb computer will not activate security because it can't 'see' the module, however, your remote fobs will not work either. I haven't looked it up in a while but I think Chrysler may have made a SKIM-less SKREEM, so that your fobs would work, but no security, but I can't remember. It may have been the exact opposite of that. A quick check of the parts manual would clear that up.

Anyway, you likely have fobs and probably enjoy using them, so be prepared to not have that functionality if you disco the SKREEM.

If you need a deal on a replacement module, I have a small business on ebay selling them. I can reprogram it with whatever programming you want from police to SRT and everything in between using the latest official Chrysler flash files. Send me a PM if interested.

06 magnum has a wireless control module which stores you key fob access as well as reads the security pin programming in your key, not going to separate the 2 with a pcm replacement. Older vehicles could be deactivated or sometimes accidently activated if you probed the wrong wires. You would need to program skim out of the front control module configuration and remove it in the pcm also I believe to make this work and keep the key fob functionality.

Good to know. I have a lot of experimentation and learning to do with these cars once I am mobile again. I messed up my leg pretty bad after slipping on some ice, but it is slowly getting better. Once I can get outside and into the car again I will continue my self education. :)
