Warped rotors again, What brake parts are you using?

Hi all, My 300 is sitting at 84,000 miles currently. I had to do a front brake job at 60,000 miles due to warped rotors. The crazy thing is at that point, the pads had a ton of life left, yet the rotors were warped and they were also worn below minimum thickness spec so I couldn't have them turned and I had to buy a new set of rotors and pads. I bought the best stuff oreilly's had and used oe style ceramic pads. Fast forward to now about 2 years/~25k miles later, the rotors are warped yet again. I am very mindful with my brakes. I coast as much as possible, don't hold a heavy foot on the pedal while stopped on hot rotors etc and at least half of my mileage is pure interstate travel. With that being said, there are some times in my hilly town where I can't help but really use them. There is one stoplight in particular at the bottom of a steep hill on both sides that likes to change quickly and I have to stop very quickly for that one. So what kind of brake parts are you guys using and are you having the same issues? Should I try using semi-metallic pads instead of the oe ceramic types? Thanks for any input.

The thinner they get, the more prone they are to warping. They should be replaced once they reach min thickness. You should also torque wheels to spec if not doing already. You could try a softer pad. What type of rotor(s) are you buying?

I'm not sure what type of rotor they are to be honest. They look just like the original solid vented ones did. I just know I bought everything from oreilly's that was supposed to be equivalent to the OE setup. The quality of the parts are obviously lower than true oem as they didn't last as long as the originals. I saw online that I can order heavy duty brake parts spec'd for the police equipped 3.5l v6 chargers. Would those just swap right one mine and would it be a good idea to order those maybe?

I think this is your biggest problem, I used Advance rotors that were vented front and rear and their platinum pads ONLY due to them being free having a buddy at ADV, HOWEVER let me tell you they didnt last more then 15k miles. Rotors were extremely warped and im not even a crazy driver whos hard on my brakes. I went to Rockauto and tried the power stop street warrior and couldnt be happier. If you're trying to be cheap no offense thats what your going to get when buying brakes at Part stores ie ADV, AZ, O reillys and napa. Also what a lot of other guys are stating which I hold close to the heart TORQUE YOUR WHEELS!!!

R1 rotors and Hawk ceramic pads. Been rolling on these since 2009, some 65k - 70k miles. Other than a little squeaking out of the rears, not one issue.

I'm super aggressive driver...one of those, "where the heck is that guy going so fast" drivers and was going through rotors around 30K in my 300C. The best rotor so far has been the Raybestos R300 performance rotor that has lasted so far almost 110,000 hard miles. I've run 2 sets of semi-metallic pads now on the 3rd set all without any turning of the rotor. It does have a low rumble when stopping due to the groves cut into them, but they hold up.

I use Brake Performance rotors, have used them for 10 years on my truck and Magnum. never had one warp. I use the drilled and slotted rotors-- 'cause I like the way they look!

Thanks everyone! This is the kind of information I was looking for. I will do some shopping and see what I come up with. I might just get a full front and rear set. My rear brakes are squealing also and nothing I do will shut them up (including crc disc brake quiet).

When I bought my car it came with either autozone or o'reilly's platinum version brakes and they squealed like a pig coming to a stop or when I applied my brakes rolling slowly like going through a drive-thru. It drove me nuts, one of the first things I changed thinking the pads might have been low, but they had plenty of pad left. Put some Power Stop Z26 pads all around and now they are quiet and throw way less dust on my rims.

I've read that ceramic brake pads don't heat up as much as semi-metallic so most of the heat generated from braking goes into the rotor. Brakes convert mechanical energy into heat energy. My 2 cents.

My 2002 F150 is prone to warping the rear rotors. I replaced them with AZs best and they warped in no time. So, I will buy the best I can find to replace them next time. Everybody is selling cheap chinese rotors it seems.

Actually its the opposite that I've heard/read...ceramic pads heat up more than semi-metallic pads, but typically are lower dust and less noise. No idea if they less friction as well as I assume that would come down to formula's, but I would think overall a semi-metallic pad offers more friction than a ceramic pad.

A couple of months ago, I put on a set of Power Stop Z26 pads and rotors at all four corners once the originals wore out. I got the car at 40k, and it had just turned 80k when the originals were wiped. The Z26 set has vented drilled and slotted rotors for the front, and a sold, drilled and slotted rotors for the rear. I have to say that they are probably the best brakes I have put on any car I have owned. They work great in the dry, but really show how good they work in the wet. Another advantage is the pads do not produce any dust that I can see. I got mine from Rock Auto, as it was the best pricing I could find for everything.

Power Stop slotted (not a fan of drilled, between rust holes and just the extra removal of material) on two sets of SRT brakes and stock police brakes from Brake Performance. No problems, like mentioned make sure they're bedded in properly prior to actual use, especially if you are a "spirited" driver.
