I know this is widely talked about, but I couldn’t find any specifics to my issue. Doing a heads/cam inertia package and decided to add 6.1 exhaust manifolds and mids while I was already there. The passenger side exhaust manifold clam shell keeps on hitting the block right by the starter, and is being a pain in the butt. I have them already bolted on to the heads. Any advice out there before I start banging on the manifold. To create a small dent for clearance?
I didnt have to create any dents for clearance when I did the swap... actually the drivers side was a bigger pain in the rear than the passenger side was.
Now that I think about it I do recall the starter seemed to be in the way but with a little twisting i was able to make it fit without removing the starter or anything.
the starter was slightly getting in the way but got past it pretty easily. It was the opposite for me, the driver side went in with absolutely no problems... am I the only one having this issue? Lol whole cam install was going smooth until this, figured I’d ask people before I start working on it after work today. Maybe it was me being on 4 hours of sleep that wasn’t letting me think clearly lol but it’s the clam shell close to the studs that’s being the PITA
banged The clamshell and now it’s not hitting it the alternator But the flange is now touching the bell housing? Started it up, no noise or rattle is coming from it but I doubt the flange touching the bell housing can be good... am I really the only one with this issue? Whole heads/cam build went well but damn is this being a PITA!
2007 charger rt. Apparently the mid pipes don't line up either... I'm looking at other people's installs and the orientation of the stud coming out of the collector are different than mines? Is there anything I could have possibly done wrong? Heads were marked and installed in place so I know forsure those aren't backwards...
passenger side
Drivers side. Looking at other people's install i can see that the studs on this side aren't orientated the right way either... midpipes won't line up on either side
found this on another forum... looks completely different than my set up?

Your eyes are correct, I was wondering the same thing after looking at other people's manifolds. I assumed one of the pipes was being used to pair up 2 cylinders. From the outside they looked completely normal like any other srt manifold. Guy I bought them off of said they came out of a 2010 challenger
nope, bought it as a exhaust manifold/mid pipes package so I'm usimg 6.1 midpipes. I agree on the drivers side note, it looks way too close to the steering column compared to other people. He said they came off a 2010 challenger so that would be a 6.1
When he posted the picture of the flange against the starter I figured he got a set of 6.1 Jeep mainfolds. They are not going to work on a car. They are not true 4 into 1 headers as the front two pipes are siamesed together for clearance in the Jeep. The midpipe mounting flanges are going to be in a different orientation so nothing for a LX/LC chassis is going to fit on them. Going to have to ditch those Jeep manifolds for a set of LX/LC 6.1 or early 6.4 SRT manifolds. Jeep manifolds are fairly different when looking at them off the car. Sounds like the seller hosed you pretty good.
Thanks guys for the help, after doing the whole heads and cam build it sucks to deal with this right at the end. I bought these being told they came off a challenger here on the forums, I’ll see if he will do a return because this is not what i was buying. Probably going to take off the heads and have to buy all new head gaskets, exhaust gaskets, and head bolts to not deal with trying to squeeze them in through the bottom. Cars been down for almost 3 months but guess the wait continues unfortunately.
Motor mounts had to be loosened and engine was supported up a couple inches for my manifolds to clear and be installed. 6.4 off a challenger on to my 5.7. FYI they are a pita to get into position
Oddly enough it has been discovered that they work really well as shorty headers on 4th gen Rams with eagle hemis. If you can't return them you might be able to recoup some cost to a truck owner. I've noticed when they're on ebay they generally don't last long. Speaking of ebay, these popped into my feed today: Mopar Challenger Hemi 6.1 6.4 Exhaust Manifolds 5037632AF 5037633AF NEW!! | eBay
Might be worth keeping track of them if not jumping on them before someone else does...new for that price lol? I'm amazed they've lasted this long.
I bought some used ones online the second I found out that the manifolds were wrong. At this point i just want my car up and running lol have had so many delays that were out of my control, can’t wait to finally drive it

Unfortunately, they are Jeep midpipes... definitely going to talk to this person about a refund now. Time to start looking for some srt mid pipes. At this point I'm probably just going to put on the logs back. Sucks to have a heads/cam build with stock manifolds but this is just getting ridiculous, unless I can find some midpipes asap for a reasonable price. Pic is of the Jeep srt mids next to my stock rt ones. You can tell the studs orientated in a completely different possition.

You can take a lot of solace in the fact you won't be losing much putting the cast iron units back on...
