    Steering wheel not centered

Hey guys, I bought my 2017 charger scat pack about 8 or 9 months ago and love it but one thing that is driving me crazy is the steering wheel not centered. Car drives straight and true and I haven’t noticed any odd tire wear patterns on the front. I’ve seen how to remove the steering wheel and it looks simple. My question is if there are splines that I could just move the wheel around a few notches to make it look straight. Here is a pic of how it looks driving straight.

As far as I remember, I don’t think it’s possible to just adjust the steering wheel on the steering column.

I know when I had my 2014 300, it wasn’t possible as there was a notch which had to be lined up. I don’t think they would make any changes in how the steering wheel was mated over the years.

My best guess is it just needs an alignment.

While the toe might be correct up front, whoever did the last alignment didn't properly center the steering wheel.

It's a pain to do and keep it centered while aligning it, but it can be done. I've had to do the same car 3-4 times to get it right.

If you're not out of warranty, take it to the dealership and have them do it. If you ARE out of warranty, take it to a Firestone and get the lifetime alignment. Well worth the price of admission.

Thanks guys. Maybe I just need to have a 4 wheel alignment check even though it drives straight. I just put new tires on it about a month ago cause the back ones wore out but not because of me burning them off but because of uneven wear. Here is a pic of how the back ones wore out.

Get used to that rear tire wear, unless you get the camber correction bushing kit (I have a set I'll be selling next week- brand new and never installed) or adjustable rear arms.

These things eat rear tires with the factory rear camber setting

Couldn’t I just get the camber adjusted when i get the front aligned? I know of a good 4 wheel alignment shop locally

Or if the camber adjustment kit is better, I may check into that with you. Never heard of that before

The rear is only adjustable by the correction bushings or bars. There's no factory adjustment for rear camber.

I'll be selling my kit for like $50, but I haven't listed them yet because I'm in NC and they're in Texas. I'll be heading back to Texas for a while this Sunday.

The bars are a better route because they can be adjusted more than once without removing everything or special tools needed. They also cost a bit more.

I'm adding considerably more power to my 17 this Summer so I'm putting the bars on for strength and adjustability instead of just the correction bushings.

If I'm correct the camber isn't adjustable with the factory parts.

Chargers are really difficult to align the steering wheel - had this issue with my '11 R/T and my '16 SP. With the SP, I had a camber issue in front which no one could get within green; I had good dealer who worked with Dodge to open a STAR case and authorize camber bolts to be installed. After that, they were able to align my steering wheel correctly.

Camber doesn't have anything to to with the alignment of the steering wheel. That's all done with toe adjustment.

I have done waaaay too many alignments to be lead to believe otherwise.

90% of these cars camber and caster settings are "out of spec"/ not green. That green doesn't mean a thing to someone who knows how to do alignments. It just looks pretty on paper.

Since my car drives straight and no odd front tire wear, does that mean simply that whoever aligned it didn’t make sure steering wheel was straight before adjust toe?

One more thing if it means anything. When I go to the performance page that shows g forces, the computer recognizes that my steering wheel is 5 degrees turned when straight

It will because the sensor is mounted on the column.

The front wheels center themselves when you drive, so even though they may be pointing in the right direction, the wheel/ steering shaft is off center.

They need to center the wheel, thus making the toe out (both front wheels will be pointing off to the same side) then reset the toe with the steering wheel held in place. There's actually a tool that braces the wheel to the seat so it doesn't move.

Gotcha, so in all reality, my car is aligned correct to drive straight and true, just some dumbo didn’t verify the steering wheel was centered. I’ll prob just live with it for a while but I’m def interested in finding out more about leveling out the rear tires
