This new law is confusing as hell , I measured the db on my Dynomax mid muffler and it measures at 93db at 3000rpm from 20in away well under regulation but then yet it still illegal because i removed my stock mid , they really need to fix this law and make it more transparent

In my section of Western New York we kinda have something like that. Except it pertains to all sounds,(car stereo, exhaust, etc.) and it's only supposed to be enforced in residential areas. Unless you ride a Harley with shotgun pipes.... they seem to be exempt.

what is this new law? mid muffler dynomax isn't really much "louder" than stock for the most part... are they saying you "can't" remove or change mufflers? if so, that's so weak... guess I'm glad we have nothing like that in Fla... it's more like the wild west around here LOL

Yeah so they can give it out in freebies so they get elected again. Someone has to support the gamers.

so from the link you sent, it say's its partially "subjective" to the cop to determine if it merits a ticket or fine LOL... that's crazy... so if he "feels" it's too loud, hes giving a fine? What determines too loud... is a stock Scat Pack 'too loud"? And what if they ticket/fine you and you have stock exhaust? I don't see how they can do that as it would essentially be outlawing certain vehicles? it states 95db's, not sure how loud that is and not sure what a stock SP emits but I bet at WOT and certain conditions, someone out there is going to get a fine in a stock scat and then the fun begins?

That's exactly what it is; up to the discretion of the officer, on what he thinks is too loud! The actual test from the REF consists of the reader being placed at 19.5" from the tip of the exhaust at a 45 degree angle; test is done at idle and 2500 rpms! I actually tested mine with a muffler delete; the idle passes around 84 decibels, but once I rev it up to ~2500, it read around 105+/-! The stock is loud, but passes! If they ticket you on a factory exhaust, the state ref would see it's factory and throw out the ticket, granted wasting your time!

Sounds like a justification to gouge the CA community for money. Especially given the violation feel of 1k. Don't fee so bad though, our city complained about the noise level at our race track. Long story short, we no longer have a drag strip. But what do you expect, when a developers and home owners start building near the drag strip, which was established in the 50's... near the outskirts of town.RIP Rocky Mountain Raceways (aka Bonneville Raceways)

They did the same thing in San Diego years ago and killed off the track in Carlsbad. Then they're stunned that all of the young bucks on Marine base who own muscle cars didn't just trade them in for eco friendly ****boxes and conform to their slow paced Stepfford lifestyle...

What would they do if your from a different state and had loud pipes??

Well here in NC we don't need a front plate would they stop me for that in cali??

so my front no plate is legal in cali shouldn't my louder exhaust(which NC doesn't give a crap about) be legal also??

Ok to sum it up Ca sucks.. let me clarify that the politicians in Ca suck, they turned a beautiful state(I lived there for 9 years) into a cesspool. just sayin.

Agreed, I love my state, I love my beaches, mountains, deserts, etc...but a majority of the people here need to go.
