I am looking to upgrade the camshaft that is in my vehicle and my friend gave the specs that he runs in his car and wanted to see if there is anything close to what he is running?
.533/.519 lift
243/257° of duration @50
107° LSA
I currently drive a 2013 dodge charger R/T 5.7L
If someone could give me any recommendations for upgrading my cam shaft or anything close to my friends specs. I am looking to upgrade anything I need to.
I don't think you will find an lsa that tight in the modern hemi platform.
Matter of fact, you really won't find any modern vvt hemi cam like that.
What is he driving and what are you looking for?
Sound, power, a future build?
He drives an older car and we both knew that wouldn't fit it's just he felt that would be the best starting point to go with. I'm looking for mainly sound since this wont be used for any kind of racing but I still would like to get a little performance out of it.
Obviously do you research regarding what exactly you want but look into inertia motorsports and modern muscle xtreme. Both make their own custom grinds versus something off the shelf and have several options to look into sound and performance wise
If you are looking for sound then just drop an off the shelf Comp 274 into it. It will sound great but you won't see crap for performance gain on the bottom end unless you are willing to upgrade the driveline i.e. rear gear and converter. The investment you will fork out just to sound nice is huge without performance gains to go with it. And you will find yourself very disappointed much quicker than you think. I am sure we have all seen the article where they stick a 273(this is the big Comp cam for the pre Eagle 5.7) cam into a 5.7 and made 100hp over stock but rest assured it's all on the top end and on the street you will find your 0-60 may be slower with a cam than it was stock without driveline upgrades. Again ask yourself if a $2,000 investment is worth being slower just for some chop out the tailpipes.
I bought the modern muscle custom cam. Dave set me up and I love it. Its 112 LSA, .589 intake, .584 exh, 260/274 duration. Grind # says MM-VVT-212-222-57LOPE.
What I can't do is give you a butt dyno answer to how much difference it made. I bought my Mopar11 with a broken timing chain and completely rebuilt the engine. So I never drove it stock and my stock also includes 3.91 gears....so you'll have to make that call. But I love the way it runs and sounds. Had it tuned by HemiFever tuning.
