So my daughter's car all of a sudden stopped shifting out of 1st gear. Starts fine, runs fine, just will not shift.
I can give it all the gas that I want, and RPMs rise accordingly, just will not shift.
No codes.
If it matters, I recently replaced the EGR valve, in which I removed the plenum, as well as the throttle body. Did that about a week ago, and it has ran fine, until.
No check engine light. I did double check last night, and everything is plugged in, and seated good. Not sure if it's just a coincidence or not.
Bad timing for sure though, lol
Do you have a scanner with the ability to check for codes in multiple modules? Transmission might have a code that's not throwing the CEL. If you don't have one, the AlfaOBD app lets you check each module separately for codes, it costs $50 and you need to buy a Bluetooth adapter, but well worth it!
You might try disconnecting the battery and tying the battery leads together for 30 minutes or so to reset everything completely.
It doesn't exactly sound like he's having transmission issues or limp mode, but since he mentions taking off the intake: the only thing I can think of is that he did not properly seat the EGR tube into the back of the intake. Which is an issue I actually had one time like this.
(UPDATE) EGR tube is seated good. Saw a couple of possibilities that a bad PCM will cause some of the same symptoms. No luck. Actually runs better, but still no shift.
So just heard from the tranny shop. Wants to charge me $900 to replace the Shift Solenoid pack.
Sure wasn't expecting that.
Could a clogged or bad filter cause those solenoids to show as bad?
