what's a good tuner/programmer for a tranny swap?

Pretty much as the title says: planning on going from the 42rle to nag1 and heard that the gear ratios are different and that I would need a tuner for that. What's one that'll get the job done while not being about 400 dollars? I'm not really looking to do any tuning also so would there be a better option?

The Engine Control System, specifically the PCM / TCM must be altered with sales codes that control the NAG1. With the OEM Control System still in-play, there is no work-around to this. This is not a simply process as your VIN identifies your vehicle's configuration so the Dealership will be (very) unmotivated to help.

Likely, you will need someone / Vendor who is very competent at selecting those SCs that allow for NAG1 control.

According to what ive read, the tcm needs to be reprogrammed with a tuner that can rewrite the new gear ratios after swap. The pcm is what needs the dealer/third party special reprogramming which I was already aware of. What I was asking here was about a tuner that can rewrite the tcm that ismt too expensive but will get that part taken care of.

You misunderstand; Diablosport, HPTuners offer solutions that allow changing the gear ratio (only) that is stored within the TCM, along with a select few folks who can also achieve the same thing by either sending in your TCM or supplying you with a new TCM that has had the gear ratio matched to (usually) a different pumkin that is to be installed.

What I said still stands about TCM Control for a NAG1 (WA580) transmission.

Trans gear ratios being different would have nothing to do with it; see reply below.

Few things that very much need to be changed first.

Only for the REAR END ratio in a properly incorporated TCM.

What everyone seems to be forgetting here is, 42RLE is controlled by an integrated PCM that has trans functions in it. NAG1 has a completely separate TCM mounted under the dash for this; it doesn't just swap into an existing 42RLE harness lol. You're trying to fundamentally alter the control system (computers and harness), obviously (unless I missed something) don't understand they way each one works and you're worried about spending $400ish...?
