    Power Outlet Install

I did a search but found nothing about this issue. I want to move the cigarette lighter/power outlet from inside the ashtray, I'm tired of having to have that thing open just to charge my phone. Has anyone moved the power outlet to another location, and where did you move it to? I was thinking about the side of the console, but that isn't very convenient. I realize that there is another power port in the console, but that is on all the time and I don't feel comfortable leaving my phone charger plugged into it all the time as it tends to get fairly warm. I would appreciate any suggestions, especially any with pictures. Thank you.

I use the console plug. I just unplug the charger when not in use. I've also installed a plug at the lower rear end of the console for my daughter to plug into when she's sitting in the back

I would think you can put them wherever you want as long as you have some wire, a way to run it, and a power source

Nice clean install BriGuy! I appreciate the picture. I think I'll try your idea. I was actually thinking I might install a switch in the console to turn off the outlet when I'm not using it. If thats the route I go, I'll be sure to post a pic.

Why not use the one inside the center console?

Because I don't want to leave my phone charger on 24/7.

If it's not actively charging your phone it's not "on" lol, it's just sitting there. Mine has a little LED that stays lit, but it doesn't use enough juice to hurt a thing.

It won't get hot if it isn't charging your phone either, there's no juice running through it.

The fuse in the trunk only controls the front power plug, not the one in the centre console.

I have had my phone charger in for three years now, no issue except when I accidentally stuck a key in the other port not being used. That was exciting, all worked out well and both ports still work.

Thank you Punisher69, I didn't think of that. I've tried leaving it plugged in and you are right, it doesn't get warm at all. The LED does stay lit but that is all. I may still decide to install a switch just for piece of mind, and find a clean way to run the wires so they aren't lying all over the place. I really appreciate your input, thanks again.
