Affordable solution for OEM HID headlights for Chargers!

Second post now updated with how-to info.

First off thanks to Porkchop for attempting this project along with me. I know a lot of the Charger crowd has been looking for an affordable way to have the OEM HID projector headlights. Well it seems it has been found!!! I have an 06 and correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the wiring was changed in 08 (they first year they had HID headlights) so it's going to take a little bit of custom wiring for pre 08 Chargers but nothing too difficult. So far I've invested only about $270 (not including the HID kit I already owned) and I believe I have everything to make this happen. More to come soon.....

Nope those ballasts won't fit in the hole, has to be oem.

What a great experience trying to get this to work.

I'm thinking we don't need the caps or a good seal because when I took out the oem headlights they had the same design kinda bit without caps. O well, rtv/dynamat/gromments its all good.

If you have an 06-07 you have to make the 4 pin adapter so it works with two 2 pin adapters. Like in the picture below except the top two holes will have socket extension coming out of it as well. Then you hook the bottom up to the high beam socket and the top to the low beam socket.

If you have an 08-10 it would be plug and play!!!

But the ballast has to fit inside the headlight housing because there's a wire inside the housing that goes from the ballast to the 4 pin connector... Meaning there's a wire that would go from the D1S bulb to the ballast, then another from the ballast to the 4 pin connector all inside the housing. I would love to see someone get it set up that way because no drilling would be needed, but it would need to be a smaller sized ballast to fit.

Exactly, just wiring. Like mentioned before, the bulbs connect from the silver igniter box to the ballast that mounts under the headlight. Then there's another harness that connects the ballast and the high beam bulb to the the female connector that mounts into the headlights. So to get it to work you would have to use the male 4 pin connector that would adapt the headlights to your factory wiring, like the one he just posted above. He is only using 2/4 pins because he's powering the low beam hid's with his aftermarket hid kit.

Some other info, the aftermarket housings use h9 bulbs for high beams so your factory 9005 bulbs and harness won't work. Also, remember to aim your headlights via the top gold Philips screw. Park your car as close to a dark wall/garage and mark your low beams (should be small circles) with tape. Make sure you are on a level floor and adjust the headlights with the center horizontal line of your car front to back. Then back up the car and make sure your headlights are 25 feet away. Then adjust your low beams to be 2.5 inches below the tape you marked after the headlights were adjusted to the center line of your car. DOT standards for projectors is a 2.1-2.5 inch drop from 25 feet away.

-Enjoy.

You know what Troy, I was still confused about the wiring even after you explained it to me a million times. As soon as i saw the internal wiring I was like "OOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH" lol.

If I go to beach burger I gotta show em off to you lol.

Hey Tony. Big thanks to 1aauto and for Todd talking my ear off about cars lol. I didnt mind and we talked for 15+ minutes. It's good to know I'm ordering parts with fellow car enthusiasts.

1aauto = A+ service.

Thanks ;)

I just made adapters that use the supplied h9 wiring to a 9005 female connector so I can connect to my factory wiring keeping my car harness stock.

I'm at 6000k also but might put h9 hid's because I already have an extra hid kit but for h3. That or put some silverstars in them.

Let us know if they are eagle eyes.

Same thing but the high beams are 9005 in our cars. The plugs are the same.

Silverstars would of been perfect, if they made them in a h9 bulb :(

I'm just gonna get a 10 dollar shipped hyper white h9 bulb at 6000k. I could care less about quality if its just for high beams. No hids in the High beams, I gotta stop somewhere lol.
