How important is it to rev match when you are downshifting? 95% of the time I will just put it in neutral and coast to a stop. But there are sometimes where I want to pick up some speed quickly and would need to downshift.

^^^true dat :^D

Rev matching on a road course prior / during corner entry at speed, rev matching assists braking action and can reduce / prevent the rear from stepping out once into the corner. In the same circumstance, tt also(!) helps the synchromesh assemblies from working extremely hard to slow one gear and speed up the requested gear set when there is usually a huge difference.

I always try to think of my clutch and all it must do when I drive so I always at least try to rev match. In your example you rev your engine to a little above the rpm needed so when you get in gear and get the clutch coming out it's a forward momentum with no backlash or clunking. Anything less is unnecessary abuse. My 2 cents! [emoji16]
