How hard is it to swap a hood?

How hard would it be to swap the hood on a Scat Pack? I have a 2017 Scat Pack and eventually want to put the hood from the 2019 Scat Pack ('15-'18 Hellcat hood) on it. How much do you think the dealer would charge? I figure you pay for the hood, paint, and labor so I'm guessing upwards of $2,000?

I’ve had 2 hoods on my Challenger beside the oem.
Both I have taken to outside shops. They were not painted body color so I didn’t have to leave the car for them to blend the paint in. The first cost me $700 to paint, it was aluminum so they did no body work. The second was fiberglass and they had to take some waves out of it with body work, that one cost me $1100.
Each hood I put on with the help of my girlfriend.
While the dealership is probably a reliable place to take your car if you are dropping it off, they like to jerk you around for a long time (not that other shops wouldn’t). My buddy got his hood repainted on his jeep and they had the car for over a month giving him excuses every week.

Your estimate is reasonable depending on what they charge you for the hood and their particular labor rates.

Two people can swap that hood in about an hour.

Buy it and do it, yourself.

Me and my 15 year old son swapped the wifes stock hood, for a nice Carbon By Design SRT style hood, in about that amount of time.

You'll need to swap out the striker, from the old hood, to the new one and do some minor alignment. It's just eyeballing the gaps. No biggie.

Lastly, you'll need to remove the squrters and lines, and move them to the new hood (if it's not prepped for that, already).

Hood is spendy, and inspect it really carefully when it comes for damage. Once painted, put 2 soft bath hand towel at each back corner of the hood at each side, have a friend stand at the front and hold the middle. remove the bolts and use the towel to protect everything in each corner. Next do a little dance to get to one side and your friend to the other side, walk away with hood. Reverse to install, but look real careful where the paint was marked with old hood bolts as a starting reference for new hood bolt spots. Shut VERY slowly until you have it really close, then gently press closed for final fits. Good luck.

I had a quality aftermarket hood put on my '01 Mustang by a body shop years ago. It never felt or opened/closed like the stock hood. I sold that car and have never put a new hood on anything else.
I made sure to get the shaker so I didn't have to worry about upgrading the hood.
You might have a better experience with a factory hood from the dealer than I did with the aftermarket one.
