Is the trunk open??

Car has been garaged since Oct as I;m trying to get the throwing belt problem fixed.
Now a new battery that was put in in December has died. It will not charge more than 9 volts. The car has locked me out after i put it on charge.
I have looked at all the lights and even disconnected my phone charger, camera, radar detector , and removed the burnout box. still won't charge. This battery replaced a new one that was put in September.
Something is burning the battery down and i can't find the issue. The hood has been open the whole time by the way.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.![]()

no just the hood.
I have the same exact issue for a few years now so since my car isn’t a daily driver, I leave it on the trickle charger. Gonna install a battery disconnect when I get around to it. No one can seem to figure it out so I’m just dealing with it. Sorry I can’t help but at least you’re not alone if that’s any consolation.

Same as above^
I would leave mine a week or two at a time and it would drain. I now just disconnect positive and negative sides of the battery and it’s been fine since.

Well now after you guys talk about this mine goes dead constantly and I just bought a battery charger. First it wouldn’t charge above 6 volts.
( trickle charge)
Then I hit it with a 40amp boost for 24 hrs.
dead in about 2 weeks if I don’t start it. I’m on my 3rd battery in 11 years

Has anyone tried performing a battery draw test?
Any chance the charger is defective?

There are many videos on the web showing how to go about finding a component that discharges a battery. They usually start with an amp meter on the battery. A thermal imaging device could be helpful too using it on the fuse box and other components. Disconnecting the battery is not a good solution because it resets the computer every time. I suggest you find the problem because something could be shorting out that could burn up your car. If you want some links, I will post them.
You mentioned the hood was open - I've seen a contact switch under my hood, but I'm not sure what it is for - could that be activating something that is draining your battery? BTW, you mentioned getting locked out - if you don't for some reason have an actual key to open the door, I noticed at the junk yard that our cars have a "hidden" jump point that is behind the plastic in the front wheel well - passenger side if I remember correctly.
was wondering what that contact switch does, Anybody know???? The hood has been open for two months doing repairs.
Per Hemissary: Lots; if your key is not recognized the car won't start. Or, will start and immediately shut off. A small red LED will flash, not the check engine light.
yes i had that and the doors locking by themselves.

I haven't noticed (but also haven't looked for) any hood switch on three '06 models and one '05, so I wonder if your car has remote start - that might be a switch that prevents remote start if the hood is open.

yes remote start, not sure if thats what it is, remote start hasn't worked for two years.
could that switch be drawing juice?
