Help is needed!!!!!

If you haven't seen yet we've stood up a message board to discuss this very topic. We're making good strides and we still encourage support from everyone here.

I want to put out a call for anyone who has been held back by the CAN Bus. If you'd like to see something made possible by getting around it then let us know!

Click on the picture in my signature below to check out the progress, offer your support and post your ideas and concerns.

Also, we have set up a donation account on paypal to fund the development of this project.

Website: www.canhack.org
Donations: donations@canhack.org

Thanks Everyone!!

HUH????

Mine goes all the way down to 0 miles to empty. Trust me I've been there...

Mine definitely counts to 0 as well (also a 05 Magnum RT, in case that's not obvious). I would guess that it is a change for 06, maybe they decided that the number given isn't always accurate or consistent enough? I know on mine that I can go 20 miles after it says "0", and I still only put in 17 gallons to fill it back up to full.

If you really want to see how far down the guage goes, enter the diagnostic mode of the EVIC and go to the page that has the RT and LT data. When both of those read zero, then you are DEFINITELY out of fuel. You'll probably stall a short time before that though...

TOPIC CHANGE
I was thinking how cool it would be to add a setting on the bass/mid/treble/balance/fade screen and have settings for subwoofer crossover and level...

The biggest progress to report from the last 2 weeks is in the Microcontroller arena...

We have a guy who's done 30 years of Assembly programming, and he's working on the microcontroller code for working with the CAN bus. He's already gotten it to emulate the CAN232 interface that we've been using to log data from the CAN bus. ( He doesn't own an LX vehicle, but he has two of the microcontroller boards, and has successfully test Loopback comm's, and is soldering up an interconnect to test board to board comm's ). Once he has tested the functionality fully, he will be hooking into my Magnum for the final test of his code.

This may sound redundant.. Emulation of an already existing peice of hardware... but in reality, it is a HUGE step... This is the fundamental code we will be using to interface with the CAN bus in all our 'black box' products.. in other words... This work is directly related to the End user products that will be completely plug and play...

I personally have been swamped in my personal and professional lives for the last several weeks, and haven't had a chance to move forward on my decoding / coding efforts... but, I have decoded all the data from the Sirius unit, and have written code to send Artist/Song title data change, as well as the 'Updating Channels...' data... The 'Updating Channels...' data has not been tested in the vehicle as of yet... ( Hopefully this week will see this happen ).

Also, if you want to see more real time udpates... PLEASE!!! head over to canhack dot org ... The Forum on that site.. while not as active as things are here at lxforums.com.. is more closely tracking progress of the project in general. Sign up if you feel like it, or if you just want to read, feel free...

Thanks for all the support from this forum and all of it's members!

i just realized the accessory turn-off delay doesnt work with aftermarket radios :(

is that part of the canbus?
yes, it is part of the CAN Bus... there is no Accessory wire in the wiring harness for the factory radio... it just gets a signal from the CAN bus and turns on/off as appropriate.

This has been brought up on http://www.canhack.org forums, and is on the ToDo list for the project.. :)

Stay TUNED!!

First Purchase Made...

Hello all...
Just wanted to let everyone know that the CANHack.org Project has made it's first purchase with donated funds. We have acquired 15 iPod doc connectors for experimentation.

So... to all those that were wondering.... YES, we will be working on an iPod adapter for the CAN Bus enabled vehicles.

STAY TUNED!!

Hey BBH!!! Thank you VERY much... Truely a generous LX Member..

And, to whoever Sticky'd this... THANKS!!!

Greatly appreciate everyone's support on this project.

As for the First 'BIG' purchase of the CANHack project.

We are aiming to get a 'CANUSB' adapter distributed by EasySync ( click on 'CAN Bus Solutions' in the left menu, then just above the 'CAN232' listing on the right, there's a "More details.." link... if you desire ).

The product is $154, and w/ the cheapest shipping will come to $160.01. Currently, we have $50 in our donation funds.

Thanks again to all who have supported this project. It's really going well, and it's all thanks to you guys/gals!
I just sold a simuliar unit for use with VAG-COM on VW cars to a friend that does everything this unit does for $100, I was wondering if it could be used. I wish we had something like the VAG-COM program for the LX cars, then we would not need the dealer for most of the common stuf.

Since he doesn't have a laptop he hasn't been able to us it, maybe I should see if he will sell it back to me??? Actually it was a serial port conection type.

Also wish I had found this page sooner.

But I wonder if they're actually shipping product.

- www.peripheralelectronics.com does not show the product
- the picture looks photochopped
- the case style is the same as what pac-audio uses
- pac-audio's Ipod interface uses the same connectors and layout as the real peripheral electronics Ipod interface. (My wife has one in her Taurus, that I installed.)

So it looks like pac-audio and peripheral are related somehow. I suspect the picture is to drive orders for a product that may not yet be released, and they'll quote a long delivery time.

Anyone actually tried buying one yet?

LK... That's not a bad idea...

Everyone is already coming up with iPod integration within a few months... But no one does much with the non-ipod devices. It would probably be a great service to create something for them. But not sure if there is any common standards so it would work with all the MP3 devices and not have to go through building each interface individually.
