I have read here on a thread that some one said running 20's made it safer for them at the track as the lower profile tire would not fold over in a turn due to the weight of our cars ... yet everyone says run 18's and I agree ... main reason is more choices in tires .. so from all you road racers what size is better and in the 18" what size tire is recommended ... I see some of you buy scrubs from the tracks ... If I go that route how do you find them for sale?
Im about to pull the trigger on a set of rims to road race with and don't want to make the wrong choice
I ran the old R/T with Napa UP rotors and Akebono pads with some success, but for next year with the SRT I'm planning to swap out my EBC reds for EBC Yellow stuff pads and keep my Centric slotted rotors...but I don't think most of us are on your level. Not yet at least.
Up until this year, my car was a daily driver. I ran Stoptech hybrid pads. When my Hellcat finally came, the 300 got stripped and dedicated to the track., with dedicated racing pads. They do make a difference.

Did you try these pads on the track?! Did they last? I essentially melted/disintegrated the stock pads in its first track weekend. Left uneven deposits on my rotors. Was no good. I've been running the EBC Blue stuff since with great success, both on the track, and as my daily driver. Lots of dust, but they have never squealed.
Would they be comparable to the Blues or the Yellows in your opinion? I've got the Reds and they're maddenly bad as far as noise and brake fade, but I don't know if I can justify $180 for a set of front pads to go with the Blues...
What sizes are people running on their 18s? I know 275/35/18 is the go to size for scrubs, but for those with a little less track time sticky street tires provide a better learning curve than slicks so I'm wondering if there are a few different recommended sizes or just one go to size like with scrubs.
I've been thinking about getting some Weld Racing 18's for next year with some good tires for both the strip and road course (don't need slicks yet for the drag strip). Would a 18x9.0 with a 43mm offset work with a 265/40/18? I'm thinking going with the Michelin Pilot Super Sports at first.
I wish I could fit 18 inch wheels over those 6 piston brakes. But unless I get creative and have something custom made with a flares barrel, I'm out of luck. Or at least that's what I've been told so far.
A lot of the guys swear by 18x9.5 wheels and 275/35-18 tires. Used racing scrubs are like 125 each. Google used racing scrubs and you will find a gaggle of places that sell them. You might want street tires for your first set to get used to things. Street tires make a lot of noise and are forgiving. Listen to the noise and push it. The racing tires make noise right before you are sol. I am going to use street tires in the Spring and get scrubs after that. I need more practice first.
The issue with 18's is the limited choice of tires that meet spec. So many companies focus on 20's these days that its almost cheaper to run some lighhtweight 20's.
Looking to buy a set of 18x9 +15mm for the front of my 15 R/T STP..5.7L, the company I am ordering from are saying they won't fit?? TrippyTro, what brakes are you running that require spacer? Thanks!
If you have factory R/T brakes and not brembos setup that size SHOULD fit without spacers
Stock brakes with the bravado wheels, no spacer. Ran it this way for more then a year
Is that $704 PER WHEEL!!! I'm not on those kind of drugs yet.
Edit: I see they sell them in sets of 4. Lockdown is getting to me. lol
