First off big thanks to Seadoo Sandi for the grill from Pay it forward!

Now on with the show:

I started off by removing the silver ribs from the grill:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/98_Neon_Driver/P1000491.jpg

Then taking my handy-dandy dremel and a cutoff attachment I cut out the plastic bars:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/98_Neon_Driver/P1000492.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/98_Neon_Driver/P1000493.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/98_Neon_Driver/P1000495.jpg

Now you need to make a trip to your friendly neighbourhood rice retailer and pick up your choice of mesh. I went with black honey comb:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/98_Neon_Driver/P1000504.jpg

Now you need to cut the mesh to fit:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/98_Neon_Driver/P1000505.jpg

Once you have the fit that you like ziptie the mesh to the grill frames, you should end up with something like this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0903/98_Neon_Driver/P1000507.jpg

And here they are installed:

Zip Ties

A question for you,

Did you do the same grill work on the lower section of the grill?

And if so do you have any pic's of that part of the mod?

Looks cool and i'd like to see the mod on the lower part.

any idea if any of the supports on the lower grill had to be cut out or can be cut out? Just thinking of ideas that can poosibly look good.

The lower supports do not have to be cut out. They could be cut out but you loose a lot of the structural integrity of the the opening.

I have not gotten around to the lower openings yet, if I do them I'll have this amended.

Yep it's the rear emblem off of the R/t w/ R/T cars and the Daytona.

Thanks for the info. Good to know. I really like the options you have shown for the grill. Keep up the good work.

did this mod today... looks great. i got some mesh from Home Depot for about $8, some metallic black rustoleum paint for $6 and some black zip ties for $2. so for about $16 and a couple hours i got a pretty good looking grille. i will take pictures in the daylight and see if i can get them on here. the hardest part was getting the screws in/out of the bumper... i had styrofoam on that reinforcement beam that was a pain in the butt. I wanted to buy the true SRT grille but its TOO expensive for me right now. In my opinion it is the BEST looking grille for this vehicle...

now i think i am going to go daytona on it and black out the crosshair but leave the dodge logo in the middle. should look pretty sick.

great mod! pretty easy! id say a 4 out 10 difficulty on an afternoons work. maybe a 3 beer.

O and i went to home depot... because O'Reillys, Advance and even Autozone did not have this mesh...

That's funny, 'cause I went everywhere BUT home depot. I was like... "Surely they won't have it at home depot".

Could you PM me what mesh you exactly got from home depot so I can find it easier? That place is huge.

I'll PM you, actually...

You can angle the zip ties where they're very non-visable. That's what I did.

I'm actually not quite done - I ran out of zip ties, so I'm going to Wally world here in about half an hour to scoop up some more and finish the job.

I ran into the same problem of not being able to find the mesh - so I got mine in Home Depot.

It's in the drywall section. I'm pretty sure it's drywall screen. It looks just as good as the stuff the OP used. I'll post pics as well, when I get the other half of the grill in. Maybe I'll even do it tonight.

I also managed to lose both phillips screws on the drivers side, while reassembling that one. I'm gonna try to replace them.

So, be careful, 'cause if you drop one you're not getting it back, most likely. I lost 2.

Be careful w/ teh HD stuff as it will rust in time, the auto grade stuff is aluminum and has no issues. Mine still looks good 2 years later with the only issues being the paint on the mesh faded big time (looks more like gun metal now) and my R/T is sandblasted pretty good (not noticeable unless you are right up to it)

You guys are full of great ideas. I am going to try to this in the future. I have some other mods I will be taking care of first.
Did you guys who got the aluminum mesh use a primer before painting?? Also what paint are you useing---automotive high heat type of stuff or regular spray paint at the home depot??

You know I have a stock SXT grille from a 04 build, and they look different in many spots, especially the center, where yours is flat and solid, mine is sculpted to fit into the cross hair portions, and mine looks like it actually clips in, versus all screws, its weird. I'll post a pic of mine later.

EDIT: here are the pics, notice the differences, its like the whole grille is much larger, and stronger.

375 Jr. I bought that grill from another member to do this mod and it worked in my RT no problem. The part that looks like it clips in actually does screw in.

I just used rustoleum black paint. (I went with the 'textured' black looking one, hoping it would give it a 'rusty' look... it didn't.)

I'd do as many layers of paint as your patience will allow you to do, and clear coat it afterwards, if you use the drywall mesh, like I did.

first you need to remove the pins at the top of the bumper clip. there is 6 or 8. once you remove those it will allow you to pull the bumper forward....be carefull not to put to much stress on the bumper cover as it will crack the paint. there are 2 screws at the bottom of each grille piece, as well as2 sets of clips. be gentle as i cracked one the first time i attempted this. from there they should pop right out.
