Looking to get more life out of your CAI filter? A pre-filter can help with that. I present to you, my fellow LX brethren (and sisters), the L'eggs Legmaker hack.

Buy a pack of L'eggs knee high stockings (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AYZB546/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) (I chose black)! I got 6 "pre-filters" for less than $4. Compare this to the $20-$40 cost of a normal pre-filter with giant company logos on them.

Only downside to this is when the package shows up at your door and your wife gives you "the talk". It might be best to tell your wife that you're not into a lifestyle change, simply saving some money on the car...

Back to the L'eggs Legmaker Hack. They work great to keep the pleats clean of debris, which will allow the filter to operate at peak efficiency.

To install, remove the filter from the intake tube, remove the clamp ring from the filter. Now, slide on the knee high. You may need to brush up on your sock skills, as it helps to almost do it in reverse. I tried to get the bottom of the compression band of the knee high to just about where the top of the filter is. It allows part of the knee high to then sit underneath the clamp ring and I hope prevent it from coming off.

I've had mine on for about 2 weeks not and it has not moved at all.

Just replaced the pre-filter, as I was noticing a run. I think my intake goes dancing on the weekends or something.

And more than a year later, the pleats were debris free still. Seriously one of the best budget hacks around!
