what's with the strange looking valve covers? What do you guys think is the purpose for the weird shape?

Wow those are some interesting looking vlave covers. Wonder if it will affect being able to get to the plugs at all. I doubt it but it just might stand up far enough to make it a little more difficult.

That belt routing makes me dizzy! Yeah those covers are beyond odd looking...

Could they simply be cast that way to give the cover over the fuel rails something to mount to? It would eliminate parts and assembly time and likely cost.

Yes, one belt for the supercharger and at the end of the supercharger pulley, look's like a clutch system.
And the other belt is for the rest of the accessories.

Like this, if you break the supercharger belt, at least you can continue driving N/A.

I'd be willing to bet the shape is to keep oil and vapor separation for the Pcv system.

yep^^^, boost, crankcase pressure and oil control are not simple to address. Hopefully they have something that caj be adapted to older engines.

I got the chance to ask Ralph G about this at CEMA - he said the heightened cover is to accomodate oil evacuation. Not sure if he meant vapours or actual excess oil.

Think of it as a catch can built into the valve cover

Almost - there is still a tube leading out of each cover to somewhere...

Probably the intake like the catch cans do. It just separates out the oil vapor back into liquid and the remaining gasses get recirculated and combusted
