I came across this on the Tire Rack site. Toyo has released a new DOT competition tire:

Proxes R888 http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Toyo&tireModel=Proxes+R888

Should also be okay for short drives to and from the track.

Does anyone have any more info or any thoughts you want to share?

H,m, looks like a mishmash between a slick and a rain tire

I wish I had some information for you. I bought four in the 285/35ZR20 (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Toyo&tireModel=Proxes+R888&sidewall=Blackwall&partnum=835YR0R888&tab=Sizes) size in preparation of running the Texas Mile back in Oct. Unfortunately I had engine issues and wasn't able to make it. I am sure that they will fit on the back, but I am not too sure about the front. I have an SRT so height-wise I think I'll be ok, not sure about the width and turning radius. I haven't mounted them yet, they are in storage down in the basement until I need them. I was planning on mounting them on the stock SRT rims and seeing how they ran.

At $400 ea it's much cheaper to buy a set of mod a cheap 18x10 Saleen wheels for track days and buy scrubs for $100 ea.

I run 275/35/20's on the front now. I'd be very interested how yours will clear on the front.

I'd never use those as a rain tire. The Michelin Pilot Super Sports will continue to be my rain tire of choice, as it allowed me to run faster laps in the wet than most of the guys with track rain tires.

Yeah - I guess that's the best way to go, Joel. Apparantly this tire has been around for a while - just the 20' size is new.

Yes, these have been around for a while, but the 20" is a bit to much for my liking after driving on the 18" setup. But Nice find there Northern Rider!

I run 285 in front and 315 in rear, mounted on custom CCW rims, nothing can compare to the stance and hook of thoses tires.

I thought this info might be useful for guys who enjoy lapping but don't want to invest in another set of wheels and tires that they have to haul up and change at the track . . .

actually the tire being in that size is not new, i remember i was looking at them a few years ago before the NT05's were being made. its the GTR size, hence why it is so expensive in that size. FYI the GTR guys have a lot of hate for that tire for some reason. a buddy of mine who road races an LS1 powered Porsche didn't have high opinions of it either.

i had a customer with those on his lotus who said they were ok, but i think maybe it doesn't like heavy cars.

There's a guy at our circuit who stores a GTR there. I'll ask him, if I have the chance. (btw - his lap times in the GTR are very brisk - out of my range - LOL! But - he also has a Lambo - that I managed to pass and stay ahead of, in one of our races, last summer . . .)

I finally have the tires mounted on the stock Charger SRT rims and on the Charger. Rears are no problem, but the fronts have about 1-2 mm of clearance (I can slip an envelope between the tire and arm, but it is dragging) between the sidewall and the control arm. This is just sitting and not under any stress/flex from turning so I am going to get a 3mm spacer and see how it does. I got these tires to be able to run the 1/2 mile and mile events, so I will only be going in a straight line with them, not shooting down the corkscrew at Laguna Seca so I am hoping that it will give me enough clearance.

FWIW, when I invent my time machine I am going to go back and get some 18" rims instead. A lot more tire choices and can get a better offset to clear the control arm. Hindsight's a bitch.

Here is a pict of the clearance. I went out to the local parts store and bought some crap spacers to see what would happen. I taped up the area where it would rub and went out for a drive. I didn't push it because of the spacers and also knowing that I would only be running in a straight line. After I got home and checked, there wasn't any rubbing so I am good to go, after my BT spacers get here. If you were roadracing these tires, it might touch but you would need to check it out.
