I Took 1st place in ITO 6th overall finish in a field of 15 cars in the ARRC at Road Atlanta today
I Qualified well and started 4th behind 3 C6 Corvettes I lost a couple of places to a ACRX Viper and another C6 Vette the LF wheel bearing started going out around the 15th lap I crossed my fingers and gritted my teeth and prayed it would last 5 more laps to the end

MY cooling issue is solved. I don't think it ever got over 190* the whole race.

I only uploaded the first half of the race. the second half was about the same with a checker flag at the end.:)

Well done! Mistakes are what qualifying is for, thats where you push the bounarys.
Great driving and it looks like loads of fun, one question though, do you have an LSD or do you run an open diff?
It sounds like a lot of wheelspin in some corners!
If you donīt I highly recommend one, it will increase your stability overall and increase traction out of corners, it will also provide better stability during breaking.

Challenger for the win!

Nice job, Joel. Qualifying was exciting - nice job keeping cool and pointed the right direction, that off in T1 usually goes less well than that!

It just needed more air going through it.

Thanks for posting yet another great vid, Joel! You were really driving the wheels (and wheel bearings) off of your Chally. Awesome stuff.

It appeared to me, from the vid, that you may have been getting a tad too much 'lateral hop'. On my car, when I tightened the rebound and damping fully down on my R2's, I got the same result.

For me, a middle setting with both adjustments really settled down my contact patchs. Having said that, I have not run at Road Atlanta, and I know the track surface can be rough in places there . . .

Having said that, I have not run at Road Atlanta, and I know the track surface can be rough in places there . . .you are correct I do have my rebound adjusted all the way. If I back it off the body roll is excessive. my car sitting static is very close to sitting on the bump stops. if I raise my ride hight my lap times suffer. I need stffer springs but none are available for the rear. I just doing the best I can on a near zero budget.

Ron380
11-06-2012, 07:26 PM
What rear springs are you running now? Are you allowed to change them to something like Eibach's or Pedders?

joelvan
11-06-2012, 07:52 PM
I have the eibach R2 coilovers I have tried to get stiffer rear springs but eibach claims they donot have any available. right now the car is pretty neutral
overall so I hate to mess with it I have the car set at the minimum ride height for my class if i raise it up higher the body roll is excessive .I am pretty much a novice at suspension setup theory. I am turning near record lap times for American Iron so I live with the occasional mid turn side hop. also Randy Pobst drove the car and made the suggestion of tightening down the compression and rebound. he is one of the most successful American road racers around.

You've done your homework! Randy is, indeed, one of the best around. He can wring wretched speed out of just about anything on 4 wheels . . . .:)

You could always play with the sway bars.

yup. he is really a cool guy. I think he was kinda miffed he didn't beat my lap time . he is use to beating most drivers best lap time by a second or more. he did show me the traqmate data where he would beat me in a race because his exit speeds were higher than mine where my entrance speeds were faster and that my tires would not hold the distance for a whole race and my times would fall off. here is a video of him driving my car he is the first driver he is a lot smother than me

Joel - the last race of our season, I won outright - with the front swaybar fully unhooked . . .

joelvan
11-06-2012, 11:07 PM
did you do that because it was wet?

Northern Rider
11-06-2012, 11:22 PM
Honestly, no.

It ripped off the right Eibach strut. We discovered this after the second last race and decided to run with it unhooked (and unhooked the left side). It increased turn-in and allowed for easier 'torque steering' on the rear. My front tires really gripped in the rain and it suited my driving style.

So much so, that next season, I plan to go with a much lighter sway bar, instead of the thick Pedder's bar that is in there now.

Love seeing you, and others being successful racing and developing this platform!
Has anyone from mother Mopar expressed any interest in your efforts?
I'm sure you'd love to see some springs appear on your doorstep:)
