Just came in the door, trophy in hand and car intact, after 2 days of hard fought competition at Calabogie Motorsports Park, against dedicated racing sedans and coupes . . .

Tired, dirty and hungry - so will post up more details later - after I shower, eat and wipe the big $h!t-eating GRIN off my face.

Chrysler sales are going to be brisk in my neck of the woods . . .

SRT8's ROCK! http://www.300cforums.com/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif http://www.300cforums.com/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif http://www.300cforums.com/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif

UPDATE: Video is now up in post#12

Thanks guys! Appreciate it.

You know, I was telling a friend that a day at the track makes me feel 30 years younger . . .

Little did I know that when I walked into my business this morning, my staff chimed, "So how was your weekend?". Before I could answer, they said, "You are on Facebook", and brought up this image on the computer:

http://www.300cforums.com/gallery/data/518/Radio_promo.jpg (http://www.300cforums.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=5653)

The next thing was, "Does your wife know what you do on the weekends?" lol . . .

What happened was this - 2 young cuties were promoting a local radio rock station; came up to me at the track and said, "Would you like a free t-shirt?"

I, of course, replied, "If it's free - I'm in!" Before I knew it, they had the shirt on me, and wanted to take a pic in front of my "race" car . . .

This is the result.

Now see if you can read what is stencilled on the T-Shirt . . . http://www.300cforums.com/forums/images/smilies/new/33.gif

In car vid is coming soon . . .

Meanwhile, here's some pics from the overall weekend action.

We had 65 minutes of video, just from the last race (rain delay). I've got it down to 19 minutes, in full screen HD format.

What you will see is a 2006 daily driver Chrysler 300C SRT8 with minor modifications and 88,000 miles on the odo - taking on dedicated road course racing cars and some very experienced drivers on a challenging course, in some very heavy rain.

So . . . clear some time, open up the vid in full screen HD and turn up the volume . . .

Great driving, those are good tires! Thanks also for the tour of the track. :)

Was that VW an R32? The AWD would have been good that day. I had a good time on Thunderbolt in the rain with my SXT/AWD. ;)
Running Sumitomo HTR Z-III tires.

Thanks, man! Rain does really suit AWD. I had a lot of seat time with AWD in Pro Rally (many moons ago . . ).

The VW was an older Rabbit - nicely prepped and very quick.

I gotta say - the Pilot Super Sports, running 44 lbs on front and 42 in the rear (cold) were really up to the task in the heavy rain conditions.

But the best part was the -2 camber on the front. Made all the difference in the corners.

GREAT VIDEO, I just plugged into the surround sound and enjoyed it, thanks for the tour, did you leave the traction control on 100% for the rain? It looked like the stang that was holding you up was having some fun too. thanks for the tips on the tires and camber. look foward to the next video.

Thanks!

As to traction control - it was on - but modified. My ECU programmer has reduced it from factory specs when full on and I reduced it further by using the TC button. On a dry track, I fully turn it off as well as ABS.

Here's another video for you to study

It's from the same race weekend, but from inside an IMSA Porsche Cup 911 GT3 car, as he drives to a win. Watch the early part carefully, as one of the cars gets tapped and goes end over end and over the armco. The car was destroyed, but the driver, Jim Hoddinot, was unharmed.

Off to the track again - for the last race (#6) of our summer series.

Flag will drop at 5 pm tomorrow and we'll run for 40 minutes.

In the large GT2 class, we are sitting in 3rd for accumulated points - 1 point behind second place - my buddy Steve in his Merkur race car.

Weather forecast is for cooler air and thunder showers http://www.300cforums.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif - and we have a trick or 2, up our sleaves for the finale . . .

Just out of curiosity, how much fuel is left after 40 minutes? At 43 minutes I needed 18.3 gallons...

We also have 20 minutes of practise / qualifying - fastest lp time determines start grid. I top up with 94 oct after practise and only have maybe 3 gallons left at the end of the race - if we run clean with no cautions.

Hey pat I was checking out the pictures and this one has me wondering something :

WTF is going on with that Driver side front wheel ? Is that just the extra camber and a weird angle ?

Yeah - it looks weird - but it's just the neg camber and the photographer's telephoto lens creating the effect

Just got back from the track. It rained - as predicted. Still - a good turn out - 21 cars entered.

I won the GT2 Race outright! http://www.300cforums.com/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif And - by a wide margin. In fact, I battled the 3rd place GT1 car for the last third of the race - (a red BMW M3) gutted - full race prep car.

And - they announced the overall results for the entire 6 race series. I finished in 2nd place.

The big difference tonight was the negative camber on the front wheels. We were able to dial in -3.5 degrees for this race. This made all the difference for turn in and speed through the corners. Even in the rain, the grip was awesome.

Will put up some pics and video in a day or two.

Meanwhile, there are some owners of high priced 'sporty' imports that are gonna have SRT8 nightmares tonight . . . .

I really enjoy watching your vids and driving skills. You have inspired me to get back into autocross. Looks like I have a great car to do it in. Use to autocross in my stock 05' Gto with Pedders swaybars, but this car feels like it handles much better and feels more solid. What size tires are you running? Also wanted to add that your srt8 looks much better with those wheels you just put on, compared to the other ones.

Northern Rider
09-15-2012, 01:03 AM
Franco - we are running Michelin Pilot Super Sports 275/35/20 up front and 285/35/20 at the back.

Yeah the wheels do look better - and work better too! Lighter and much better cooling on the brakes.

Here's a clip from a GT2 STi pilot who was behind me on the last two laps. He thought I was a GT1 car . . . I talked with him afterwards - nice guy.

Yeah - I was surprised that my Corsa Song drowned out his STi engine. In fact, when they announced my 1st place and had me take the podium, the comment from the organiser was that 'the best sounding car on the track was also the fastest . . '

Just discovered that my GoPro failed to initialize, so I have NO VIDEO - bummer - as I passed lots of cars and only got passed by one for the entire race. There will be lots of video from the other guys . . . and some good track side photos, soon.
