I have questions on the getrag diffs I am not sure what ratio to run in this build a 3:73 or a 3:91 do all the getrags use the same spline axles or is there a difference between the 09 RT & SRT diffs other than the ratio. right now Im stuck with a 3:06 out or a 08 auto which will not work out with the 6spd.

3:73 would work out pretty well. Love the build and following! One of these mclaren/lemans aluminum short blocks would be sooo nice in there. They only have 4 avail at PWR.

Right now light weight parts are not in my current budget. so far Im doing all this out of pocket,
I need to sell my police charger to cover what I have allready spent. I also have to build this car within a 9.5 to 1 power to weight ratio to stay in class. more than that would put it into the American Iron Extreme class. Right now I need a Getrag setup to fall into my lap. The 08 3.06 setup will not work out with the 6spd. Before i can think about lighter weight parts, the diff. issue will have to be resolved.

Great job Joel!!! Car looks good on track, always nice to get the shakedown run out of the way. 1:39 ain't bad for a shakedown either!

You'll find as you get more weight out of the car, it's probably going to come from behind the CG and your weight bias will shift even further forward, unfortunately.

Curious to hear how your brakes were and what your plans are for wheels/tires.

Again, really cool to see this car out on the track so quickly - nice work!

joelvan
06-21-2011, 09:37 AM
I am going to use the Saleen wheels I have now and buy a set of FR500 mustangs wheels before next season. the stock brakes are fine with Carbotec pads with cooling ducts. I wanted to take the car to the track and let the Regional and sieries directors see the car and them tell me exactly what all I can cut out.
I found out I can cut out anything as long as the floor pan and firewall stay intact. it was suggested I try to move the engine back about 4 to 5 inches to help the F/R bias I can alter the trans. tunnel to do that.
I will have to make a rear sump oil pan also. I am planning on going hog wild with a plasma cutter on the body in the next couple weeks. I plan to use the big wing off the police car to add back some areo to the rear. hopefully it will help out with the F/R bias being off

RobAGD
06-21-2011, 09:59 AM
Well is your cage going to be a structural component as well ?

The reason I ask is that if you go nuts cutting, you will want to get back that strength via your cage.

The Drag Pack cars have the engine set back a bit, not 4-5 inches as I recall, might wanna get some pics from someone to a lookie lookie.

good luck !

Im having some shakedown pains with the challenger. HAL tried to kill me at Charlotte motor speedway this weekend by applying the brakes while in NASCAR turn 3 at 140 mph. It really scared the shat out of me it almost forced me into the wall. The ABS/BAS lights were on before I left going to the track so the system would not disable. There was a few times the car would pull throttle out on some of the infield turns. slowing my lap times.my best lap was about 2 seconds slower than the police car. I assume this all has to do with the ESP system being out of whack I had bought a new belly pan last week which lasted 2 laps before blowing down and ruined I ordered a sheet of 1/4 in.ABS plastic it should come in next week I will build a front splitter out of so it will takeplace of the bellypan.

Joel, unplug one wheel speed sensor and your ABS and AH will be disabled but EBD (electronic brake distribution where it tries to balance the fronts and rears) will remain active. Unplug two wheel speed sensors and you will have no ABS or EBD. I've seen "ice mode" and various other ABS issues completely destroy cars - nothing to play around with there.

This is awesome, J! Congrats on the beast.

I noticed you had strut bars on the front air dam (3) and then in one photo above you have one. What happened with the other two? I'm looking at adding a couple attached to the air damn and on the front clip just under the lower grill, supported with some aluminum behind the clip. This will be ahead of the Texas Mile. My nose got compromised with a heat exchanger upgrade and I'll have to beef it up or the air dam may tuck down and get pulled under...

Joel, off topic question

You gonna be at Petit again this year?
I'm getting ready to book my tickets for the flight down.

put the car on the scales today, I was disappointed the car weighed #3,525 with the fuel on empty
we figure it will come off track around #3,800 with me in it . I'm taking it to Injected engineering to get it dynoed and Tuned tomorow For it to have 9.5 pwr to wt ratio it needs to put 400hp to the tires. I put the ported heads and intake
and kooks headers on it with no cats, corsa pipes and a C&l cold air intake on it this afternoon to try to get as close as possible

It dynoed 401 today perfect for the pwr to wt limit.

Nice, I am kinda surprised you were not a bit higher than that.

How close to that 400 is realistic for class ?

The limit is 9.5 lbs to 1 hp we figure the car will weigh a tick over 3800 with a 1/4 tank of fuel and me with a coolshirt system in it, so we are hitting the limit dead on.
power wise it has a stock 6.1 short block and cam still has the Automatic in it. we have only added a set of Indy ported heads and ported intake and catless long tube headers. You think 401RWHP is off what it should be?

The Challenger finished third today at Roebling road raceway. started in the second position. we did a standing start I lost back to fourth going into the first turn.by turn 4 I had made my way back to 2nd and put pressure on the leader several times but was unable to get by him about lap 12 my used tires gave up enough to get passed so I went back to third for 2 turns and was able to fight back into 2nd again lap 16 got passed again and the mustang that passed me was spraying gas out his fillertube which made it impossible to stay close because of the loss of grip on his spillage so I rode out to the end in third.

there are a few road racing actively. Joel's definitely a renaissance man, though :-) Great stuff to watch, especially all the work he does himself.

Joel - I thought you had swapped over the 426.

Do they Dyno cars or do they power factor them like the NHRA ?
