One more Record thread…we’ll get this filled up as the season progresses and we’ll do some tweaking as the discussion moves on. I know MattRobertson will be providing lots of guidance on this… I’ll make the footballs and keep record :)
We’ve decided that only one football will be issued per track…no breakdown by different models of the LX and LC platform as in the drag racing thread.
I used Matt’s suggestion from previous thread (http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?p=1957652#post1957652) to set some guidelines. Please add suggestions and we will modify accordingly.

Here is an excellent read on LX/LC Road Course Preparation (http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=123923) from our members.

Rules and Guidelines
** No restrictions on Weight, tires, T-stat, Aero…well none really just go out and race the track…refer to equipment rules for the track you are running.
**** An Image of the timing equipment's screen (see below) showing your time, posted in this thread before football issued or updated.
Per previous discussion (http://www.lxforums.com/board/showpost.php?p=1957652&postcount=9)
Laps must be self-timed in the car, using either your own timing equipment or the track vendor's timing transponder equipment. If the vendor's equipment, either steal a time sheet at the track (they should be giving them out) or off their web site via screen shot. If your own timing equipment, take a picture of the time and thats your timeslip. Tracks are different enough that it'd be mighty tough to fake that, and if someone does they'll be easy enough to catch at it.
No fair running a stopwatch against your in-car video (I (Matt) am just as tempted to do that as the next guy) because there is no guarantee your camera is replaying at EXACT real life speed). Videos are purely for in-thread bragging rights.
There is no need to get a population running a track to get a football. Whoever runs a given track has the fastest time on it until someone else goes to that track and intercepts the ball.
Records set at multiple tracks by one individual will be consolidated onto one football.

I don't think it premature to put Sebring and PBIR (Palm Beach International Raceway) on the grid.

There are a couple of us at least in Florida who are into it.

can you add Texas World Speedway to the list, lap distance 2.9 miles? They don't have a timing system set up though and I usually just have someone with a stopwatch record my times

Carfinish
02-28-2009, 10:39 AM
thanks fellas I'll get all the tracks added and yeah if you guys can supply lap distance for the track I would appreciate it.....

Cibalo...I'll let Matt :Na_Na_Na_Na: make the decision on that one... LOL

Sebring is 3.7 miles in its race configuration (some shorter distances are sometimes used): http://www.sebringraceway.com/images_sebring/trackmap/TrackMap-2008.pdf

PBIR is 2.034 miles long: http://racepbir.com/road.html

Oh *great*. Dump it in my lap.

Well, if we can take a picture of timing gear I suppose we can take a picture of a stopwatch setting. Thats not an issue I guess, but the accuracy of the person running the stopwatch is. Should we talk this over with everyone maybe in the other thread so this one doesn't get cluttered?

http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=144332&page=4

I'll ask the question over there.

There are about 10 of us running here on April 4th

So to qualify we need a video running with a stop watch visable in the car or I need to find someone's timing device I can borrow for the day correct?

So to qualify we need a video running with a stop watch visable in the car or I need to find someone's timing device I can borrow for the day correct? We decided on no stopwatches, but I have to admit I never considered a video camera with a stopwatch visible onscreen. Lets go to the other thread (http://www.motorsportranch.com/1.7-road-course.cfm) and discuss how if can make that work so we keep this thread as clean as we can.

110mph, but I was almost as fast crossing under the bridge. Not to mention 80 all the way through the light bulb.

As you know TTMR's straight away speeds were nothing to be startled by. Alot of LX's were hitting 130mph in the straight. He is just fast everywhere, lol.

Well for referance in my pos

http://www.robagd.com/cars/NJMP-03-30-09/1-29-2-Lap.jpg

To give you an idea

I was rolling about 70 ish through 2/3 60ish through 4 throttle up to 5 turn in and apex out at 70ish and then full throttle to the 7 turn down shift to 3/2 exit at 60-65 throttle up brake/down shift to 2nd for the light bulb and keep it 65ish exit throttle up until the ( best speed was 128ish at the tower ) tower and start braking and down shifting enter turn 1 at 60/70 mph Blind off camber tune very very fun.

http://www.robagd.com/cars/NJMP-03-30-09/NJMP-turns.gif

The pro driver in the Pedders G8 ran a 1.18 and in the Arrington / Pedders 300c SRT ran a 1.20

and the Pro driver in Duncans car ran a :23 :)

I wish I could have had the NT-05's and the R4 pads....

Congrats to Duncan on an awsome time !

Turn 1 was a blast, really cant get an appreciation for it in any picture. Totally blind after coming off an insane sweeping straight away.

TTMR
03-31-2009, 07:45 PM
The hardest part about turn 1 for me was remembering that it isn't as hard as it looks from the strait! I kept thinking I had to turn 90 and would be way to slow. I just wish I could have had a few laps after I rode with the pro, I think I could have gotten close to a 1:25 after seeing the lines and knowing that yes you can really go full throttle all the way around 8.

So far my best at California Speedway (aka Auto Club Speedway) in Fontana CA is 1.21.588 on the Interior Road Course CW on 6/14/08, and 2.03.323 on the "Roval CCW" on 12/1/07.

The results are posted on the Speed Ventures website.

If someone else is quicker post up and save me the effort of capturing/posting screenshots etc...

Hell, if someone is quicker let me know so I know what time to shoot for!!!

Congrats again to TTMR! Score one for the V6's AND the AWD Club! :pepper: :thumbs_u:

I had several laps in the 1:34-ish range, which I was very happy with. No slicks here, and not quite so ... "daring" as TTMR! ;) The HTR Z3's held up pretty well. A small amount of tread rolled up from the inside edge of the outermost blocks. The rest of the tread looks great! They make very little noise "at the threashold", and I haven't gone over that point yet, either... ;) Cold psi @ 45 front and about 42 rear worked well.

OK here's my submission for ThunderHill Raceway: 2:17.69. I consider this a good starting point. I know Steve Levin can beat it. And so can I if I spend more time there. I was pretty green on it Saturday.

I rented a timer from the vendor because I forgot my transmitter :-(

Thanks Matt!

Obviously my driving skills outshine my computer skills!!!!

I'm gonna try and hit the Big Track at Willow Springs, Infineon and Laguna Seca in the not too distant future. Hopefully I'll at least get close to your times at Laguna Seca!!!

BTW: I tried listing all the results from those two track days to show which cars were faster AND which ones were slower. As you know: It takes a fast car, a good driver and traction to put in a quick lap.

Some of the cars that ran slower times were actually faster cars!!!

Dan I am running Laguna on May 27 with TrackMasters. Infineon on July 4 but thats a test-n-tune. No timing allowed. TrackMasters has 4 more Infineon days scheduled this year. One of them is same day as SpeedVentures (October 8/9).

Note that Laguna is closing down to private clubs for most of the rest of this year, and TrackMasters has 3 of the 4 events available. Aaron has the 4th which is in August. I'm planning on being there [-]August 22[/-] August 23.

Be there. Aloha!

I had a day reserved at Infineon on May 4 but cancelled it as they are only running advanced groups that day and I want more seat time there before stepping into that.

EDIT: Just read the SpeedVentures writeup on their Aug Laguna date. Aug 21/22 is a slower 35-car field and Aug 23 is for advanced drivers only. Thats me.

Matt,
Have a blast at the track. I'll see if I can run at the same time. That would really freak out the SRT Doubters, a Black Magnum and a Black 300 putting down quick laps!!!

I see that you do not have Virginia International Raceway (VIR) on your list. What gives? :) I see that most of you guys are on the west coast. I wish that I had run my 300 out there, but at the time i was running the vette around the circuit. I have run Laguna seca, Buttonwillow, Willowsprings, California Speedway, and Spring Mountain. Now it is time for some of you to come to the east coast and the run the courses here. VIR is a great track. So can we get VIR added to the list? VIR Full course 3.27 miles.

Here is my Lap time. Watch out they are gona get faster.

2:24 As soon as mylaps.com is working again I will post the time sheet.

Hey Eric- we do have a football for the Lightning track at NJMP! If some of us can get some other timing gear, we hope to add Mid Ohio and the new Bluegrass track (when it opens...)!

Feel free to make more suggestions! I hope to get to the Glen someday, as well as other "midwest" tracks! :pepper:

As long as this thread has resurfaced ... I'm heading to Infineon later this year and they'll allow timing equipment. Going for it there. And Thunder Hill is tomorrow. No timing allowed but I think I can sneak my transmitter onto the back straight. Laguna next month. Crossing my fingers for better times but its getting cooler and last time I couldn't cross 1:50.

Doesn't have to be a spectacular time. I put up my Thunder Hill lap just to get one up there and give someone a target to shoot at. We need more of those.

The Laguna time, on the other hand... thats an LX best by a long shot over any other recorded LX time. Closest was XE Ryder and he was over 5 (five) seconds slower, but still fast. Bring your A game if you want to beat that one in one of these lead sleds. Can't wait to get some times at Infineon. October is soonest I'll be back there though.

We have to start somewhere and if you are the first, the football is yours. Laguna and ThunderHill are that way for me, although I suppose XE Ryder was chasing me around at Laguna for awhile, and I beat my own time for the current time at Thunder Hill.

Here's my application for #3: Infineon Raceway in Sonoma CA. a.k.a. Sears Point.

Hemi Family was there with me but his time was slower. I still haven't written up my story for that day. Had a big storm out here and got sidetracked babysitting a generator for a few days.

Its a god awful slow time, but since no one else has run the track

Here is my time for NJMP Thunderbolt circuit, run in wet conditions with standing water in a number of places on the racing line
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v239/xevilpetex/Thunderbolttime003.jpg

I only timed during my last session of the day and i feel like i may have had a faster lap earlier in the day, but since i had a bit of a moment sliding backwards under the turn 12 bridge in the previous session i wasn't really pushing too hard through the turn 11a/11b/12 complex which lead onto the front straight during the last session.

Also, here is my ghetto fabulous mounting for Flybyu's lap timer that i borrowed.

I would be utterly shocked if nearly everyone didnt beat that time if its dry in March. Judging by what I've seen from other cars lap times in the dry there, I'm guessing the top lap time will be somewhere between 1.45-1.55 in the dry next year. But, as it was no one in my group was even close to getting a point by from me all day so there wasnt much I could do.

Also, here is my ghetto fabulous mounting for Flybyu's lap timer that i borrowed. Now that is dang clever right there!

I originally thought my Infineon time was going to be unapproachable for the rest of the year due to cold weather, but we are having record hi temps for this time of year. Supposed to cross 80 today.

I am running Infineon again Friday and I am going to hold out hope that the warm weather holds. If it does I have a shot this year at running a sub-2-minute lap with proof to back it up.

maybe the beacon was farther away from the track, i didnt place it.

I had run my 3rd session with it on, but forgot to put the window down. I didnt get any laps recorded. When I had the window down for the next session everything worked just fine.

crap....sorry Matt... I thought you were just responding to that post and did not read completely...get it done tomorrow.

Hey I want my football, I'm coming for you Matt! 1st time on the course, tonight, on Forza Motorsport 3. I've been studying your lines...

oh i know its horribly slow, maybe you should put a bit W on it for wet.
The record is the record, and we have to start somewhere. Thats why I did my first run at TH and asked for the ball... gets something on the board and gives people something to shoot at. If anybody shows up that is. On the west coast we are short of Real Men I guess.

I'm coming for you Matt!

So what is that, Laguna? [-] Looks like Turn 11 but the elevations are all wrong.[/-]

No thats their idea of Turn 5, isn't it... The curve is all wrong for 11 (and the elevation is totally wrong for 5). hooo man you are gonna LOVE the real thing on Dec 18.

You've seen what happened to Jeremy Clarkson when he tried the Forza vs. real life thing, right? :D

Yeah, I have the lonely task of trying to take down the master...I have high hopes but realistic expectations. :not_worth These first couple attempts will not likely result in any football exchanges but keep your game high, I don't give up easily.

Hey Matt- that was a bit uncalled for. iRacing is a top-line racing simulator (NOT a "video game") that's been used by and recommended by many real Professional racers! The track setups and car setups are as realistic as possible, and extremely accurate.

Don't knock it 'till you've tried it!

How do you find time to watch South Park? I'm too busy playing computer games, pulled a 1:46 last night! I'll be under the car tonight installing my football capturing goodies...I'm also thinking of a way to hook up Xbox to the MyGig so I can practice Laguna on the way to the track! lol

and then in the press conference yesterday after the record lap, he mentioned that the VCA wanted the viper to continue, so it may...

MattRobertson
11-25-2009, 10:40 PM
VCA is Viper Club of America, right? Don't see them having any say in the matter.

This may not be the end of the world. Since Fiat owns Ferrari we might get some synergy out of that. Remember how us LX's got some nice Benz and AMG bits in our cars during the Daimler years. Whatever is slated to succeed the Viper in 2012 might be using some Ferrari DNA to squeeze more performance out of a smaller platform.

I love Vipers, but its an emotional attachment, not a practical one. Who knows what the future holds, though. There is a LOT of room to build something neat before you even start thinking of cannibalizing Ferrari sales, so a whole lot of car could come out of this without threatening Fiat's halo brand.

Fargo59
11-26-2009, 12:26 AM
It all might have been a clever way for Dodge to distract attention from the fact that it sold only 245 Vipers in the 2009 model year and is trying to figure out how to sell all 500 Vipers planned for the 2010 model year. Dodge will start cranking out those 2010s in the spring, once all the 2009s are gone. Then production will stop in about mid-summer once the 500 2010s have been stamped.
Will there be a Viper after that?
"I hope so," said Gilles. "We're investigating that. The Viper nation is screaming at us to do that."

My best was 144.2. But I'm still pretty happy since it was only my first day on this course. Spent it feeling things out and having fun. And got reminded why you don't push until you are ready... Guys I have what is probably the only video to date of an LX launching off -course into the dirt at 100+ mph. Can you say pucker? Only minor damage to front belly pan. I'll be needing a new one :D. Was a great example of *training*. You hear instructors say all the time "Don't be a hero. Don't try to save it. Just point it straight and go with it." and thats what I did. If I had tried to turn... no question I would have rolled it bad.

3/10ths of a second!! the fact that these cars are able to lap willow @ 1:42 is impressive considering they weigh in @ over 2 tons! i had allot of fun with you guys on sat and have some great footage of you guys in the pits and on the track! its in hd (giant files) so i have to edit it down and shrink it up but i will post it eventually! i even got a lap in with my friend sitting shotgun shooting from passenger seat! MattRobertson
02-22-2010, 04:29 PM
and Matt couldn't improve on his 1:44 and changeNo, I got it down to 1:44.0 but I didn't see any reason to sing out about it. I actually ran several 1:44's. My instructor told me I was running the course perfectly, just not all on the same lap. I was pissed I couldn't put it all together on the same lap to grab a decent time, but them's the breaks. I'd improve eventually, but man that track is so expensive in tire consumption I think I'm going to pass. I ruined two pairs of Hoosiers... One of which had only three days on it, counting the two that we had on WS! And my brand new R100's took a beating that probably shortened their lifespan big time. I'm going to be going into Laguna in March with less rubber than I'd like for another two-day event since $1700 for four more R100's is not in my budget within the next two weeks.

Hey we should start a new WS thread instead of buggering up this one. I'll have some in car crash footage and a full session up ... in a couple days. If one of you guys wants to beat me to it go for it.

Well I dropped the Laguna record. Come to think of it, both the times shown on this timer beat the record. But the little one on top is the better of the two.

http://lelandwest.com/auto-tech/magnum/lagunatime149-25.jpg

I would have dropped it by a lot more than that but... circumstances intervened. Details in a separate thread.

If I had been able to continue for the rest of the day and tomorrow as originally planned - especially since traffic was supposed to be way down tomorrow - I would have been *well* under this number, which was run only in the second session of the day. I was running consistent 1:49's and was finding new places where I could push with the R100 shoes on.

to make a time that low it has to be gotten in the first 2 laps after that the tires start getting greasy. plus the brake rotors will start shimying pretty bad
anyway the car and myself survived . So I guess I will make the trip to Thunderbolt later this month

If you don't have a generator you ought to get hold of one for the future. This last winter was the first full winter I had mine and man did it ever come in handy. Had a 3-day outage myself and lost nothing out of my freezer and fridge while my neighbors all lost everything.

I have used my generator every year I have owned it, either for me or a friend or kid. Worth every penny.

Pretty musc any 6kw range will make a house NEEDS happy and still be mobile enough to help more than one house. During our outage from the nasty ice storm a year and a half ago, mine went from house to house keeping firdges cold and furnaces hot for a week and loved it.

I had a new personal best lap this weekend of 1:37.815 @ Road Atlanta with a Avg. speed of just shy of 93 MPh. Good enough for 2nd place in TTS & 10th overall out of 50 Time Trialers.
to make a time that low it has to be gotten in the first 2 laps after that the tires start getting greasy. plus the brake rotors will start shimying pretty bad
anyway the car and myself survived . So I guess I will make the trip to Thunderbolt later this month
if the forcast is good. Im trying to decide whether to use the Dunlop slicks with 10+ heat cycles
and will cord out before the weekend is out or try a set of Yokohamas that I got standing by. I am looking foward to running against more LXers on Track

Great news bud, cant wait to see that car of yours fly around Thunderbolt.

I got your payment yesterday so we are all good.

Our event wont be crowded and with five 30 minute sessions each group planned, you are bound to get in some smokin quick laps :)

Tru dat. I have a 5kw/7.5kw that I use and a 2.5kw/3kw reserve that I can kick on if I want to get fancy. But I loan that one out so I can run the 5kw full time and stay guilt free. Someday I want to wire it directly into the house.

It's a Hero and its the camera lens .the camera got out of my bag in the floorboard of the car Sh*t happens

I really don't know if the damage occured on the banking or the transition onto the banking.
The G-loads were pretty high, I had entry speeds of 150mph going into NASCAR turn 3 it felt
DANM SCARY!!! I am gratful I quit when I did. I figure 2 more laps and they would have broken totally off
It would have been UGLY to say the least!!

Does your wind-splitter normally scrape that much? I don't recall hearing that in your other videos... Could the shocks have been bent before this event?

joelvan
04-21-2010, 09:22 PM
that noise you hear is the push bumper it only does it on the infield at Lowes it made that noise last year before the splitter was put on. the shocks were fine the day before I had it up on the lift I check every thing before going to the track

hrm, regardless of the other tracks and who has what. I'm honestly kinda bitter now about the LRP football after seeing you use it. I'm gonna order my timer after next paycheck, since i'm kinda irritated i don't have it even though its only a club thing that doesn't really matter much outside LXF, knowing i went much faster is eating away at me. I should have stolen your timer for the 4th session to get my times recorded and make better use of it.

that track record wasn't from the same day you were on the track though, i never even bothered asking stell to update the time because wet times aren't worth anything anyway.

I think next time we're all at the track together we should use a control set of wheels/tires for one session each to see whose really the hot shoe amongst us. :racing:

basically right. You won't see me or Will hiding in the paddock when Joel or Eric roll into town on a dry day. Plus there are way too many power/weight combo's. Only way to do it is to all use the same car and that aint gonna happen. we got everything from stock 6.1's to blown 7.0's so there really aint much to standardize by. On top of it Pete, frankly: I'd shy away from dropping that kind of coin on tires and rims that you have. I'd be happy to lend my tires and rims to any SRT (for fitment reasons only) for $50 per half hour session and they can use the identicle rubber and rim as more of us have been purchasing. frankly, some of us use grip to make up for lack of power or extra weight; we gotta offset it somehow.

Im not saying for the footballs, thats for the absolute fastest car/driver combination.

This is just so we can see who is really the fast driver, not just who has the fastest tires. I was going to say i would swap my tires for a session to anyone that wanted to see where they really stood, but if you dont want to thats fine.

You me and Will all have similar enough cars outside of the tire situation that i think it would be worth comparing.

Im not making excuses, im happy with my tire set up for DE days. None of this for me is really about competing. Ive always thought it was really lame when people come out of track days talking **** about how they blew past X supercar or that they were the king of their run group. You cant win a DE.

I bought my tires based on being able to use them for a full season (or more) without having to worry about them wearing out. Im not going to get into a budget war with the rest of you guys just to get or keep a little round image on a forum because frankly, im doing this on a pretty maxed out budget as is and i'm out there to have fun. I know where to get scrubs from too, but getting them in the sizes i want is another story (i dont want to run 275/35's)

Uh, MattRobertson...what do you think about two footballs for Thunderhill? I'm running clockwise on Friday :) !

MattRobertson
05-20-2010, 02:07 AM
Its a different configuration so it counts. But its usually called Llihrednuht (check the NASA Norcal web site). You could call it that.

Buttonwillow has something like 26 configs or something crazy like that. It can go in both directions which is why none of the corners are numbered and they all have names instead.

You are supposedly more or less required to go 4-wheels airborne on the bypass to Turn 5. If you don't the two hills you drive over are rougher on the suspension than just taking it balls out. Make sure you buy the pics for the day!

need my football, its been a long time since I had my record but I never submitted it coz I thought I will break it with a better setting and better seat time but that didnt happen yet and my time still fast enough to be on top
the story was in feb 2009 with Speed ventures it was my first time ever on a road course and first time ever to go fast around the corner fast with my charger my car had only GSM novi1500 with corsa exu making 490 whp no suspension no brakes all stock, had toyo proxies 255 on the front and nitto 555r DRs 275 on the back (alot of understeering) i didnt think i will do good so i thought i should set base time for my self then i will start modding the car based on my experince there, i started with the beginner group then my instructor suggested that im good enough to advance to the better group after i did that i was racing alone car was quicker, track had less racers and here i started picking up and pushing my car to the limit

my best lap time was 1:37.430

i broke my engine that day because of the supercharger air to water intercooler after that i never did road racing yet but im sure thinking of doing more in the futer after some new mods better tires and more downforce

Damn. Thats flying for that track. But that *is* a track where big HP can be put to good use.

That tire combo would mean you'd be pushing hard in some of the corners. That couldn't have been any fun at all.

Ylwnana has his work cut out for him if he wants the record back. Last I heard he was working hard on the car.

Congratulations! You didn't just beat the record, you smashed it.

Maybe, as you see my lap timer stop recording too and I know my laps were a bit faster after I hit all the corners perfect. Just so you know Will, you can set the lap timer to override files so that you will always have room on the timer. Under options, you will see a radio button to override when memory is full.

does it feel good to be on the wrong side of that setup this time Will? This is my second bout with not having my own timer. Tough pill to swallow when someone else takes it just like at LRP when i slaughtered you by 5 seconds on a ~1minute per lap track.

Congrats Mike, sorry to hear about your troubles at LRP. Give me a shout out if you need any help with the car. I'll come on down.

Top speed is going to be close to accurate, maybe 1-2 MPH off as when I compare my track video footage to my lap times, the video clock is pretty much right on. So the times I know are accurate. You just have to study and understand the numbers to see where you can gain.

Your fastest lap may have had a slower top speed, but your average speed was high AND your slowest speed was the fastest for all laps. Congrats!

much appreciated John! When i went back over Carl's GoPro footage of the day i later realized that aside from the first 2-3 laps that morning we never had an uninterrupted lap without waiting for a pass at one point or another. That is why all the times are so wonky and different each lap. I guess I'll have to sort things out and get back there again in a faster run group to see what she can really do.
