So can the parts from an OEM HID headlight assembly be put on/in a Halogen housing for our second gens?
All I see for sale are the halogen ones everywhere.
I have wonder myself. It seems that there may be more pins on the connector for the OEM Bi-level Xeon housings, as well different internals. I noticed when I was replacing the HID bulb on my 2015 300 that there was a small toroidal coil epoxied to the inside of the housing. I don't know if that is common to all the headlight housings, or only in the OEM HID setups.
The coil is for the high beam flap thing. Is it only epoxied in or is there a slot/space for it?
I wonder if that stuff can be transferred to regular housings or not? I've never seen them side by side to compare, figured one of your guys might have.
I have the active HIDs already from the factory. I'm just wondering if I can switch the internals (high beam flaps, solenoids, ballast mounts etc) to the regular halogen housings to 'upgrade' them?
Ok. Now I’m understanding. Not sure on that. I’ve never looked into doing that. I’m sure anything can be done, but unless I had a damaged HID housing to tear apart I would be wary of trying something like that with good housings. I too have the Active HID’s. No issues as of yet. But I do know that the LED’s i swapped in my wife’s 13 Explorer are much brighter than my HID’s. She has the standard halogen projector housing with the correct bulb for the housing. The beam is perfect and the light output is amazing!
other than that little bit of useless info (to you anyway LOL), that’s all I got! Sorry.
That helps, thanks. It's looking like no one has tried and its probably just easier trying to find the active headlights I need in the newer model and sell what I have to recoup some of it. I was hoping I could buy some aftermarket ones and swap my stuff into them. :/
