Swapping a 6.1 into a 2014 5.7 300 awd

I am curious as to how much of a pain it is to swap a built 6.1 hemi out of an 08 SRT8 300c into a 2014 Chrysler 300C John Varvatos Limited Edition 5.7 AWD. I own both and am thinking about buying a new 426 stroker motor for my SRT8 and I will have an extra engine sitting around. My SRT8 has 44k miles on it and my 2014 300 has 17k miles (the engine had to be replaced at 10k miles because it was a lemon). I had never owned a 5.7 until last year and I'm not very satisfied with the performance. I know I could build it up but I think it would be more cost effective to start with something that is a built to begin with and just sell the 7k mile engine out of my new 300. Bear in mind the 2014 is an AWD car so I know the oil pan would have to be swapped because the front end's axle half shaft runs through the middle of the oil pan, but other than that what else needs to be swapped? Also are the PCMs compatible after a tune?

Thanks for any help guys!

Silly question and I know not what you were asking, but - do you have a need for an AWD car? If not spare yourself tons of labor and cost, and sell the AWD while it's still low miles and has good resale value. Can't guess as to whether you need an AWD since your location isn't filled in at this time.

Motor accessories and computer compatibility hurdles to clear.

I don't think you'll much of a performance increase going from the 5.7 to a 6.1.

That awd drivetrain is what's sucking the performance out.

Of course he will get a performance increase, more CID. But, while he is in the midst of that swap, a cam change is only a small job as are headers and a tuner.

I have to agree with AvantSRT8. There are physical changes in accessories mounting / dimensions, to say nothing of then newer gen ECM, etc. etc. looking for vvt, mds, etc. I think you'd be far better off selling the extra 6.1 and putting that money toward a cam and head work. Work with MMX or HHP for the right parts to perk up that Eagle motor. OR, sell both the 6.1 and Eagle motors and buy a crate , 485 horse 392; leave it stock and enjoy.

I do have need for the AWD and the ride height of the AWD as I travel up north quite a bit my SRT8 with drag radials and only 3 inches of ground clearance is a death trap in the snow. The 6.1 from my SRT8 has ported heads and a ported matched intake with a custom tune and high flow cats, also full boltons. It puts a out about 415hp to the wheels as is. My 2014 5.7 is bone stock and while slightly torquey it falls flat on it's face after 5000 rpms the 6.1 pulls hard to 6500 rpms the difference is night and day my SRT is mildly modded and has no trouble roasting the tires between 1st and 2nd and 2nd and 3rd with 315 drag radials on it (it will even break the ties loose at speed if you get into the throttle hard I even pretzeled a half shaft a couple years ago on the way to work). The 2014 with the front end disabled (yanked the fuse for the front axle disconnect) has trouble chirping a set of 235 snow tires. Also bare in mind the AWD has better gear from the factory than the SRT so in theory it should feel faster even with the 300 lb weight increase. I agree that building the 5.7 is and option but I'm afraid I'll probably start floating some valves and breaking things without heavy investment in the heads and a cam, I just don't think it can pull 6500rpm without breaking a sweat like the 6.1 has for years.

Saying that my SRT8 was considered a factory freak putting down 384hp bone stock before all the mods it will run 12.4.-12.6 all day long with it's mods at 1100ft (never raced it stock) I know those aren't great numbers but my response times suck. The 2014 has been somewhat of a lemon sense I bought it (wonderful car just full of mechanical problems I think after 4 months in the dealer they may be sorted) I would be surprised if it could run 15 flat on a perfect day in RWD mode, it's been through an engine already and front axle shafts, a torque converter, all the accessories have been replaced and the front differential. I have however had good luck with it after 17k in repairs(warranty). Point is the AWD is painfully slow but I do love the handling and it's my daily driver and my SRT8 sits in the garage getting driven once a month maybe and I want to mod it more. I thought a few years back about trying to convert the SRT8 to AWD but after finding it was such a PIA and the floorboard is different I decided to buy an AWD ( I picked the cream of the crop before with every option known to man) and mod it up instead. Also I read that the 2009 and up AWD system with the Borg Warner 44-40 is a much stronger transfer case than the older one inthe first gen LXs supposedly capable of taking over 500hp in stock form.
