About 20,000 miles ago I had to replace the torque converter in my 2006 300c awd. And the trans had been working great since. Last night driving home from work, i was using the auto stick just going through the gears. Left from a stop sign shifting around 3500 rpms I hit 4 gear and i lost everything. Like the transmission went into neutral. It's done this once before. And all I did was pulled over **** the car off waited a minute start it back up and on the way I go. This time not so lucky. The car just rolled 144,000 miles. Trans fluid is at the correct level. Anyone have any idea?
Any codes? Are you positive that the fluid level is correct? You checked temp in reverse or drive with a tool capable of doing so and measured that way?
I had a recent problem of the car shifting into neutral from 4th, while still showing the proper gear on the dash. It had codes for ABS ESP BAS and P0730, improper gear ratio. After lots of testing etc $$$, the problem was solved by replacing the right rear axle and it's tone ring. The wheel speed wasn't reading, confusing the control module.
Now, this is good to know. Who would have thought? I was aware that the wheel speed played a role in the transmission control, but not that this would cause it to go into limp mode and/or neutral if one or more were sending bogus information. Thanks for posting this up.
If you have a scanner with live data and you can get anything to move (even by hand) I'd check for reasonable wheel speed data from all four and what ever vehicle speed PIDs you can find.
