Naturally aspirated 3.6 V6 Challenger running 13's in the 1/4 mile

Broke into the 13's tonight with my naturally aspirated 3.6 Challenger sxt. The Density Altitude was 1797 ft tonight with a 60 degree air temp.

I have simple bolt-ons any one can do, many that claim do nothing for power and say they are just for sound, I will like to say, this is wrong.

Bolt-ons works, I have a simple cai that I built, I have stock throttle body that has been ported by me, I have stock intake manifold that I have ported myself and I have a huge 2 3/4" exhaust with stock cats with an addition of a simple 3.64 gear swap, spent some time tuning everything together and reworked the TCM (transmission control module). Nothing really fancy.

Spent a lot of time with trial and errors finding what parts will do. Which in turn I have lowered my e.t.'s from low 15's stock factory at around 93 mph ( +/- 1100 ft da) to what it is now a 13 second ride at over 100 mph. Using the same race track as the measuring stick for improvements.

With bolt-ons that about everyone says don't work and you wont feel a difference.

Anyways I'm done with squeezing everything I can out of the engine naturally aspirated and next I'm going to add a sprintex supercharger to see what I can do with that.

I have been toying with an idea of getting a stall converter before putting the supercharger on.

I think a stall converter alone would send the car down to the mid 13.50 range e.t. wise maybe even quicker.

Quite surprised to see you in the 13's without one... my 3.6 charger is a total dog out of the hole. Got a 3.92 diff on the way which should help a lot, but I really think a 3k stall should be a big shot in the arm. How does that Corsa exhaust sound in the car? I saw some vids of it at idle and a rev, but curious about any drone. I completely despise the sound of this 3.6 and that corsa setup borrowed from a 6.1 that you got is the closest I have heard to a decent sound.

There is no drone at all. I personally think it's the best sounding 3.6, I have listen to many exhaust set ups. I know I'm real happy with the exhaust considering it's a 6 cylinder.

I wanted to do everything I could to make the car quicker without any "major" wrenching, just tweak the incoming air and the exhaust to make as much power as I could, with a decent set of gears that would give "full pull" through the 1/4 mile and would allow room for a supercharger.

Still thinking about the converter something around 3600 rpms, just a tad low to allow me to hook on a decent street tire like right now, but not to high of a converter like 4000 plus that would just blow the tires off per say.

So I can run the same times whether strip or street, that kind of approach I'm taking, many times you see fast cars run say 12's at the drag strip but on the street can only run a 14 because of no traction, so the approach I'm taking as I have in the past, have the car set up to run the same times no matter where I'm at.

Give you an example, friend of mine would turn 12.90's at the strip on slicks, my camaro ran 13.50 flat in street trim pretty much every pass really good bracket car, on the street I would beat him every time by many car lengths he never caught me, of course my car was geared with 2.73 gears and under stalled the engine with a 2500 converter, I could launch that thing on any road and not spin the tires.

Did the same thing with that camaro when it ran 11.80's on a 275/60-15 tire,a lot of work on the chassis to get it to hook on cheap BF tires, but no matter where that car went it ran the same e.t. street or strip it was a true an honest 11 second street car.

Using the same approach on this lil v6 and having fun doing it. Just no big hurry to make changes, something I tinker on when I have time, not like it was 30 years ago, wrenching everyday and hitting the track every week end.

I think you are right about the converter. Dare I say, might want to try some nitrous, before a blower. Would be nice to get it on a dyno, especially for tuning nitrous, if you do. Come out of the hole at 2800-3000 with some sticky M/T's, the instant that tires hook, hit it with a 75 shot then a second later another 25 shot, 12's all day long. Do a stealthy nitrous install, the Mustang and Camaro guys will be scratching their heads. I would run some 100 octane, colder plugs gapped down.....

Ya I got plenty of negative feedback and backlash on the other forums about how thing DON'T work on the 3.6 and yet I used my car as an example of how it does work and provided plenty of timeslip for proof. Oh well some you can never convince.

My car is in the 12's now with a Sprintex supercharger and still tinkering to improve on it, I have taken the car from 15.20's @ 93 mph to 13.97 @ 100.11 mph naturally aspirated now down to 12.80 with some supercharger help. I'll keep tinkering and let those none believers keep saying that mods don't work.

I’d throw a converter in it and let it eat or put it on a mild shot of nitrous down low ramped in down the strip and you would have a 11s car all day.

Your bottom end built?

I hit high 12's with the 3.64 rear gear with 1.93 60 ft time.

I was not happy about this at all coming from a 2.06 naturally aspirated 60 ft time.

So I spent 100 bucks and ordered a 3.90 rear end pumpkin off ebay and slammed it in real quick, went back to the track with no other changes and the stupid car went 1.91 60ft, I was so pissed, the low end torque just sucks, and yes still has the stock 2500 rpm converter.

Being pissed, on my second pass I did a healthier burn out on my drag radials and pulled up to do a dry hop, I laid into the brake pedal as hard as I could and slammed the gas pedal to the floor and the car didn't spin no tires at all and I released the brake while the gas pedal was still floored and the car jumped with authority. I have never felt my car jump so hard before. So I thought maybe I could do the same action on the start line.

So on the start line I pushed extra hard on the brake saw the amber lights come down and I slammed on the gas while still holding on to the brakes, as the car began to rise up against converter I timed my brake release with the motion of the car and I ripped off a 1.87 60ft time.

Then I tried again and again on each pass getting better with "timing" of my brake release with the motion of the car rising up.

So I got to 1.84, 1.82, 1.80 and finally 1.78 60ft time, it took some effort and anger to find a new launch technique, it all came from frustration.

I have been launching the car the same way for years, but with these drag radials I was able to get way more aggressive on launch to really make the car go.

The car really needs a 4k stall, a stall converter would take an easy .5 seconds off the time slips and really push me to mid 12's with ease.

The down fall with the 3.90 gears for which I didn't use them at first is because it forces a shift right before the finish line, the 3.64 gears I was trapping at well over 6500rpm thru the lights and giving me the "full pull" and used all of my power band.

The 3.90 was used out of desperation to find a lower 60ft.

I would imagine I could go back to the 3.64 gears and use the new launch technique and have similar 60ft.

There was only .02 seconds difference between the 3.64 and 3.90 gears on the 60ft using the same launch technique of the past. So using those numbers, the 3.64 gears I should be able to crack a 1.80 anyways with the harsher launch technique and gain some of my trap speed back for which I lost going to the 3.90 gears which my car crosses the finish line at about 5200 rpm- which is pretty lazy.

The engine is all stock, I have 18,000 miles on the car now, the tranny has never been cracked off the block, all the mods I have done are reversible.

I'm going to work on the intercooler side, bigger intercooler pump and larger fluid capacity and maybe look into some meth injection to control KR, the car needs a better tune. I saw one company remove the stock Sprintex tune completely and build there own tune and gained 77 rwhp. It has been said over and over again the Sprintex tunes are junk, I believe it, mine isn't smooth at all and it just has a lot of kr in the tune.

After I change hard parts and done tinkering I will get a brand new tune to tie everything to gether so I do not upset the new tune with any part changes later down the road.

I would definitely swap back over to the 3.64, put a 4k converter in it and let it ride.
Definitely sounds like you need to get a better tune in it but need to tighten up that bottom end if you are going to throw that much more at it. Meth would help with detonation though.
Nitrous is your friend too lol
