all 2.7L owners should check their water outlet housings for coolant leak. I have had to replace two of them in the last week. both '06 chargers with less than 5,000 km (3,000 miles). the first one was towed in because the housing cap popped off. the second one I noticed was leaking during first maintenance service. the leak is from the seam between the housing and the parallelogram (eraser shaped) cap. the cap is glued to the housing and in these two instances, the glue seems to have failed. if yours is leaking, see your dealer asap. if the cap pops off, coolant will be expelled all over the engine compartment.

I have some pics but can't post them. if someone can post them for me, please pm me your e-mail address and I'll send you the pics.

thanks.

I have always checked that hunk of plastic for leaks, but it never has. I suppose they used a bad/old batch of sealer for the '06 cars.

KFC mine is still bullet proof been the most trouble free and enjoyable new ride I have ever owned. I still get 21 MPG's in town and 26 MPG highway driving 80 MPH.

Good lookin' out, fnky. I don't own a 2.7L, but I will pass it along to my brethren that do, and as always, appreciate your techiness!! :thumbs_u:

I have a 2006 charger that is leaking in that exact place...I see that you said that glue most likely failed.. is there any fix or does it need to go to the dealer or body shop period?
the part needs to be replaced. cannot be repaired.
P/N 5017183AB $144.00 cad.

not too difficult. will need to drain some coolant and then refill and bleed once part is replaced.

btw, welcome to LXforums. :)

This problem is common to all 2.7L engines in all models, I have changed alot of these over the last little while. I find that most customers come in with a complaint of lack of and or no heat. I have found that even some of the replacements fail aswell so be cautious, and always keep and eye on them.

1st post here.

Sorry bout the name, but I've had enough of my 300 experience. Been nothing but problems since day 1. Not trying to be the negative forum poster, I'm really not. Just $27 grand is a lot to spend on a lemon.

45000 miles and this part is leaking. This part should be a recall. Who designs something this way, lol?
Just thought I'd post as I have this issue.

Going to do some research in these forums for my Transmission issue. Great forum so far.

:beerchug: (had to post this Smile, I love it, lol)

Thx,

Chris

From what I could see the parts are the same. I went to my local parts house and checked it out. The only difference that I noticed was the bleeder nipple. Everything else would bolt up. Anyhow, just to keep things simple, I bit the bullet and purchased the Mopar part for 130 plus tax. I installed the housing, but did not replace the metal tubing. Reason being, I could not see removing the intake manifold just for that. Although it is close to time to change the spark plugs....LOL.....

I have this same problem with my 2007 Chrysler 300. My coolant was low and I noticed it was leaking around the top part of the housing. What it that other smaller metal tub underneath the bigger one (upper radiator hose)? I tried to slide it out when I took it apart. It wouldn't come all the way out. My orings seem fine.
