How does the Reputation System work?

See a post that helped you out? Want to point out user that should be avoided? Give out some reputation points!

Simply click the
button at the top right hand of the user's post and fill in the info.

After clicking, select "I approve" or "I disapprove" and add some comments.

ALL members can leave reputation for any members and see reputation left for them. As an added perk for our Magnum Owner's Club Members and Site Supporters, members of those groups can also see who left reputation for them. (To view your reputation, go to your UserCP)

Remember, this is not anything serious and don't get upset if you don't get as many rep points as the next guy. The staff has full viewing to see how the system is being used. If it is abused, the ability to leave reputation can be taken away on user by user basis.

Do different members have more weight when they leave reputation for me?

YES.

Here is how it is broken down.

  • Everyone starts out with 10 rep points.
  • Everyone starts out with the ability to give ZERO points reputation (this is so you don't create a user just to give negative rep). You have to earn the right to give rep points.
  • For every 100 days that you have been a member, you gain 1 point of rep-altering power.
  • For every 500 posts you make, you gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
  • For every 100 points of reputation you are given, you gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
  • You cannot give any reputation before you have posted 50 posts. (you can give it, but it will not count until you've made 50 posts)
  • You can only make 10 reputation clicks per day.
  • Before giving a person any rep points that you already gave rep points to, you must give out 10 other rep clicks to different users. (This prevents rep padding).
  • When an ADMIN gives someone reputation, it is worth 10 points.

Hey DMAG, have you lost weight? I must say all you admins do a fine job keeping order around here. I'm just going to put $5 on this desk and leave the room for a minute...

Thanks to done for noticing that any users who signed up for the boards BEFORE the rep was put in place did not get retroactivle points/rep weight for their post counts, etc.

All fixed. Some of you senior members now have some weight to throw around when you give reputation.

What does each green square signify? As in a certain # of points?

Didn't see this addressed here - what's with the two shades of green? For members with lots of rep the beans towards the right are lighter green than those to the left...
Not too sure, Junior. Probably just to visually break up the line if there's alot of one color???

You know, I never knew about this reputation thing until today when I went to my "User CP" to change my sig. I then noticed the part that said Recent Reputation. I have 45 points or something...Well now I know to leave some good feedback for you guys...

When I go to leave beans it ask whether I approve or disapprove of the post, what if I reason I want to leave beans has nothing to do with that particular post?
Is there a generic bean place?

Sometimes I get help via a PM from someone...I just do a Search on their name and find a previous post they made and Bean them for it...in the "reason box" I explain it's a thanks for the PM....kind of a generic bean I guess....
