How does the Reputation System work?

See a post that helped you out? Want to point out user that should be avoided? Give out some reputation points!

Simply click the
button at the top right hand of the user's post and fill in the info.

After clicking, select "I approve" or "I disapprove" and add some comments.

ALL members can leave reputation for any members and see reputation left for them. As an added perk for our Magnum Owner's Club Members and Site Supporters, members of those groups can also see who left reputation for them. (To view your reputation, go to your UserCP)

Remember, this is not anything serious and don't get upset if you don't get as many rep points as the next guy. The staff has full viewing to see how the system is being used. If it is abused, the ability to leave reputation can be taken away on user by user basis.

Do different members have more weight when they leave reputation for me?

YES.

Here is how it is broken down.

  • Everyone starts out with 10 rep points.
  • Everyone starts out with the ability to give ZERO points reputation (this is so you don't create a user just to give negative rep). You have to earn the right to give rep points.
  • For every 100 days that you have been a member, you gain 1 point of rep-altering power.
  • For every 500 posts you make, you gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
  • For every 100 points of reputation you are given, you gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
  • You cannot give any reputation before you have posted 50 posts. (you can give it, but it will not count until you've made 50 posts)
  • You can only make 10 reputation clicks per day.
  • Before giving a person any rep points that you already gave rep points to, you must give out 10 other rep clicks to different users. (This prevents rep padding).
  • When an ADMIN gives someone reputation, it is worth 10 points.

I haven't really paid much attention to this and probably owe a whole bunch of beans to numerous people that have helped me.

What does it mean when the bean is grey next to the comment on my user CP screen? I think someone may have red beaned me and then was banned but that is just a guess. I never saw a red bean but if someone gave a red bean & then was banned would that bean turn to grey?

Also, I think that someone gave me a green bean but it is grey next to there comment as well. Why would that be?

I remember getting a grey bean some time ago, and asking the same question - in that case, it was someone who was brand new, and IIRC, you have to be above a certain post count in order for your bean to count.

That way someone can't create a new persona simply to bean people.

Yeah, here you go:

I can't say i'm a fan of the forum upgrade, but I clicked my infraction button and went back and re-read the thread that popped up and got a laugh out of it.

Went searching for my reputation received in order to peruse some more history, see what threads I participated in were noteworthy, and was unable to find it. Is it gone?

This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
