How to Display Diagnostic Trouble Codes
by Tommy T.

Get in the car, close the door. Perform the following steps fairly quickly (less than 3 seconds) :

Turn key to ON
then back to ACC
then to ON
then back to ACC
then to ON

If there are any stored codes, they will appear immediately, in place of the odometer. For instance an "INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH" error will set a code of P0113.

Once the codes have been displayed, you'll see "-----". If there are no trouble codes, the dashes will be the first item displayed.

After a few seconds, the display changes to "-dOnE-".

This is the same procedure used on most, if not all, late model DCX vehicles.

OK
I got one tonight. The Wife hit the Rev limiter chasing this guy that cut her off. Don't mess with her! Any way, she hit the red line and the Maggie stalled out but then cam back like it should. Now there is a Cel on the dash. I run the code check and no codes. Shouldn't there be a code if there is a Cel?
Her Maggie is a base RT so no evic stuff. I pulled fuse 11 for 5 min but still the cel and no code. Gave it some time then checked it again same thing. I took out 11 for the night I'll try it again in the morning. It wouldn't bother me if so much if it would just give me a code.

if MIL illuminated because of a transmission fault, you may not see the code.

When I did this to check mine to get a code I did it 10- 12 times and only 2 times I was able to see P0700 and all other times I got _ _ _ _ _ Shouldnt the code come up everytime? Also another thing I noticed was after I put key in acc the CEL blinked 10 times the stayed solid? When the car is running the CEL stays solid?

P0700 means that the PCM has detected a fault present in the TCM. need to get it scaned to find out the TCM code.

btw, welcome to LXforums. :)

So I would not be able to see the TCM code? Only the dealer can scan and see it? I also tried resetting by pulling #11 fuse and disconnecting battery for 10 minutes. Did not reset it though
don't know of any other scanner that can retrieve codes from all vehicle systems like the dealer's starscan.

pulling fuse 11 will not erase codes from TCM. fuse 11 only powers PCM. a starscan is required to erase all TCM codes.

Can superchips erase codes?

I couldn't find a list of trouble codes beginning with U. Is this available?

The code I'm getting is U0103. According to the key provided in this thread, that correspondes to:

U=Communications - Network
0=SAE
1=Fuel and air metering
0=SAE
3=Ignition systems or misfire

This is isn't very specific. BTW, it was -17F today, my coldest starting temp since buying my Magnum in Dec 04.

My dealer tells me that Chrysler/Dodge no longer provides a cross-reference to explain the trouble codes, a star-scan needs to be connected. Which I will make an appt to get done.

The Malfunction Indicator Light is solid and not flashing, which the owner' manual indicates is a low severity problem.

Any other information on U codes?

Thanks in advance,
Scott

Hey, sorry to resurrect old threads, and not LX related, but... the wife's 2007 Pacifica CEL came on, but I'll be damned if I can get the "key dance" to show me anything. WTF!! On the Mag it at least shows the '---- done' business, but this nothing, no codes, no anything. 4.0L 6-spd, w/ the Pac. EVIC... I think this thing must be CAN bus now as well, as my handheld OBDII reader wouldn't even link up, just like w/ the Mag.

Any suggestions? :wtf:

the '07 Pacifica uses a hybrid Bus architecture. some modules communicate on CAN-C bus, some communicate CAN-B bus, while others use old style PCI single wire bus. haven't tried the key dance on one yet so i don't know if it's supposed to work or not. your dealer should take care of this issue for you.

good luck.

According to my Superchips, I have a code of B1638. What is this?

I also have a Thermostat code, but that's because of a 170.
B1638-RIGHT HI BEAM CONTROL CIRCUIT HIGH

  • When Monitored:
  • With the Headlamps activated.
  • Set Condition:
  • When the FCM detects a HIGH condition.
Possible Causes
(L34) RIGHT HIGH BEAM CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO B+
RIGHT HIGH BEAM LAMP
FRONT CONTROL MODULE

most likely caused by a burnt high beam headlamp bulb.

Did the key dance on my non-evic dash and I got the code 441 for my CEL. Whats this?

#52 ·
Thanks Hemi31 and fnkychkn...it was a vac hose and we will see how everything goes now.

#53 ·
I have the MIL light showing and tried this. No codes, got dashes from the get go but the MIL is still lit up. Not flashing but lit up. Any advice? I may take it in. =(

I just wanted to thank you fnkychkn for telling me what the code meant and hemi31 for helping me fix it.

okay i took off my ram air airbox and reinstalled it today and my Intake sensor popped out without me noticing and the sensor connector and sensor fell into the belt and were sheered off but fell onto the belly pan. found something was up when the check engine light was on and found this. took and soldered on the connector back to the wires and hooked it all back up. how long till my code will clear???

assuming the circuit integrity is no longer compromised since the repair, you can clear the DTC by pulling fuse 11 in the IPM (integrated power module/front fuse box) for 15 seconds.

cool cool
thanks for the tip. i matched everything up and it should be working just fine. we will see tomorrow. is there any possible damage going to be caused by this light being on

thanks for making me feel like the idiot i am

I tried the whole key thing and I got "0406" last night. I did a million searches online and only found something on a dodge intrepid site that said something about an EGR valve.

I took it to the dealer when the light first came on in june and they said something about a solenoid that did something with the oxygen in the exhaust system and it costing $500 to repair (i'm no longer under the warranty).

I don't know if the Solenoid is still an issue. My check engine light does not stay on consistently. It will come on randomly for about 2 days and then go off for a much longer period of time. I can make it come on by driving really aggressively (i.e. rpms up in the 5k-6k range)

The current issue is 0406. I have an emissions inspection that I have to get done in november. The gas mileage on my Magnum SE (runs from stones being thrown at me by rt and srt8 owners) is relatively consistent - generally between 20 and 26 depending on the kind of driving I do.

Well just tried this on my R/T, I got the code 0452. What would be the cause of this? Will it reset it self or is it something that it should be taken in for? Thanks in advance!
P0452-EVAP PRESSURE SWITCH STUCK CLOSED
When Monitored: Immediately after key off.
Set Condition: At key off, the PCM energizes the Purge Solenoid for a calibrated amount of time (30 seconds maximum) and stores the state of the ESIM switch. The state is evaluated again at the next key on. If the PCM does not detect that the ESIM switch is open, an error is detected. Two Trip Fault. Three good trips to turn off the MIL.
Possible Causes
INTERMITTENT DTC
EVAP PURGE HOSE/TUBE OBSTRUCTION
(K107) ESM SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
(K52) EVAP PURGE CONTROL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
EVAPORATIVE SYSTEM MONITOR SWITCH
EVAP PURGE SOLENOID
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)

ESIM (evaporative system integrity monitor) is new for '07 and replaces NVLD (natural vacuum leak detector) used on previous models.

i have not seen this DTC on an LX yet but have seen it on calibers and it was repaired by a flash update.
