Alrighty guys it’ll be time to rebuild, forge and pick a supercharger kit for my crusty Challenger soon, which ones are the best? Which brand has had the least amount of issues with our cars? I’m not looking to send this thing in to space, so I’m looking to have a cozy 750 hp but still keep this thing on the road for another 100k Miles.

Best blower for a car that is Street driven more than the track. In my opinion best blower at the track also. KB and Whipple both make awesome kits. No doubt about it. I just like the power curve with the centrifugal up high vs a PD which is instant and tapering off. Procharger has cooler IAT generally. There are exceptions to every rule including this. I'm sure someone can tell you why they prefer the other but for me procharger is the blower I built my build around

Oh okay so by the description of the power curve you mentioned, correct me if I'm wrong, a Whipple or KB kit will generally launch with plenty of power but will lose power on the high end as where a ProCharger kit will reel in opponents with its top end power? Generally speaking

Correct. With a procharger you can get a torque converter to help launch. Makes the lack of low-end boost almost non-existent

What's your $$ budget?? And really?? 750hp ?? AND you want a daily driver ?

Good luck. I've had 500hp on previous car that was light but 500-550 on street tires is IMO limit. Of course different tires can change that but I ran NT555s with a different platform and was pretty good. Vortech blower, 928 impeller, FBO fuel system etc 19psi and 1st and second was useless.

Obviously you've never been in a hellcat u wot with stock tires. Unless it's 70 or above your just spinning. Again if you plan on driving on street radials you may be ok. 750 DD just seems pretty intense unless your investing a lot and not just in over ie suspension tires brakes supporting coolant mods brakes etc

#13 ·
Yeah I've never been in one, all that will come though I'd hate to half ass a build and pay for it later down the line when the car breaks something because of supporting mods I didn't have. If 650DD is rough then I'll aim lower. I've just seen a lot of speed shops with different packages that offer different stages for the 6.1. 700 being the max but yeah I originally meant 650.

You can build anything you want but when comes to a daily driver you won’t like driving anything over 600. There’s a line in the sand you cross from being enjoyable and being a race car. You can’t forget that building starts at the motor and ends at the rear end. Everything in between has to be built to.
Everything !! So 20k turns to 30k after you break it

Oh I see, man I may just be better off buying a hellcat if 20k can't get me where I need comfortably with this 6.1[emoji23]

hellcat short block(when they were $3700) maggie with 10.5 lbs of boost, arrington heads and cam package , shorty headers, cat back , shr trans, dss driveshaft, getrag 3.06, original tune by AJ (when at Arrington). those are the biggies.

no issues drives very nice, but at 40-60 mph floor it and go sideways. :racing:

I have the Edelbrock eForce and it makes 662hp at 12psi. The kit is very complete and looks almost stock-ish when installed. It makes almost no sound due to the design. The only problem seems to be that it is a bit small like the Maggie. If you are looking for something silent and looks like a factory install, Edelbrock is a good choice.

Ah quiet doesn't bug me a whole lot, I'm all for reliability. How much power are you producing with it?

You could pick up a used procharger kit for 4k. There is also a used Edelbrock e Force in the classifieds for 4k I think. If you are frugal you can build for a fraction of new

Every single part in my signature was purchased through the classifieds or Facebook groups. Only exception was the driveshaft and TCM

I went race stars. They are light. I have the Mickey street et r series 305-45r17 rear on 17x9.5 and mh 28x4.5 on my 17x4.5 fronts

I don't think the separate belt is available any more , I know the first models for the 6.1 was but they stopped that after.

It looks like the 5.7 and 6.1 still have the separate belt but the 6.4 does not.

2.75" gets me about 12.5 psi

#39 ·
I'm running a 3" now and just under 8psi. Wonder if your lower pulley is larger? I've got a 2013 5.7 300S

Another Maggie TVS builder here, 6.1 based 393, 12-13lbs. Shr trans, dss ds, getrag, OEM axles, api fueling ... 650+whp

DD it for 10k miles, sold it and he’s currently DD it for another 35k miles. Zero issues.

Ran it at 8lbs on a stock 6.1, ~550whp, burned up stock trans about 6k miles later, SHR went in and drove it another 10k miles before full build.

Car never left me stranded. And I bought the Maggie used on this forum... lol ... that head unit has over 50k, maybe 60k miles on it at this point.

Jeeesus lol that's awesome. Maggie seems to be the blower of choice I've been seeing quite a bit. I'm surprised the stock axels are doing good still, I thought those for sure would need to be changed.

5.7 and 6.1 have different sized bottom balancers. I believe the 5.7 one is larger, so same pulley will produce less boost on a 5.7 vs 6.1 based engine, all other things equal.

At least that's how I remember it, could be mistaken.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This is incorrect information. Edelbrock supplies a new balancer and separate pulley for the supercharger with the kit, it is the same pulley.

#45 ·
I wasn't supplied a balancer, used my stock one. Larger lower would spin the supercharger faster, so 6.1 must have a larger one.

I am very happy with my procharger setup. After the e85 conversion i put down 630rwhp. I would take this car anywhere it drives just like stock all day long.I only go to the strip a couple times a year so i am by no means an expert driver but i have major problems with traction no matter what i try.I think a lot of that comes from the 3.55 rear gear. Besides the cam and intake manifold my motor is pretty much stock.Going on 3 years now with no problems at all at 7.9 lbs of boost. I am sure my tranny is taking a beating though lol. I say procharger all the way for the best street manners

#54 ·
How do you like your 3.55s with the procharger? I just had gears installed in my getrag which is going in next week

Do you have to run spacers for those big ass wheels and tires?

Gears like that are going to make traction a challenge for sure. I had a lot of luck with a 325/17 M&H dragmaster.

My car had 3.06 gears but a boat load of torque down low in the range due to being a PD blower.

The only reason I regeared was because I went procharger. Got suspension from spohn, bwoody and Lakewood. I'm hoping what I've put together equals traction
