This is one of the really early builds, 1/08/04 manufacture date.

Really early PCM flash version.

I was able to get a good deal from a couple of forum members. I got SRT catted midpipes and SRT-8 exhaust manifolds:

This past summer, I drove up to BFNY and had some work done by Erik. Despite the weather (freakin' monsoon...ducks were walking by and mumbling "this sucks..."), Erik persevered and completed my heads/cam/exhaust install and set me off on my way to drive back 350 miles to get home. I don't know anyone else with whom I can rest my confidence in to accomplish something like that. The Mag ran beautifully, even though I wasn't exactly coddling her the whole way home. Bailman & I even breached triple digits many times during the drive back.

Fast-forward to NE Blizzard '09. I told friends that I was driving upstate this past weekend and they all said I was crazy, and that a storm was closing in. Checking weather.com like a maniac, I was assured that the snow wouldnt hit that far north, and I headed up. Waiting for me at BFNY was a 392 that was personally delivered by Daddy_Kool from across the border. The deal was too good to pass up, and logistics worked out beautifully. I was excited driving up despite the -11 showing on the temp display.

Arrived at around 8:30AM Saturday morning, and Erik warmed up the garage so we could begin working. If anyone hasn't seen this man work around our cars, you owe it to yourself to watch and learn. 4PM rolls around, and the 392 + TC has been transplanted, along with a new BB flexplate. All that was left was to button up the mounts and install the heads (I chose to keep the heads that were installed over the summer). Witchy Wendy arrived, and Erik grilled T-bone steaks for dinner. At this time, the lower NEast was on its way towards getting about 2 feet of the cold white stuff. BFNY= a balmy 20 degrees and clear.

Sunday morning had us finishing up the motor, and with much thanks to Mike Lafrad who emailed us a tune on Saturday night, she came to life at second crank (1st crank was to prime the oil pump). After a few minutes of Erik's voodoo, she's idling steady at 750 rpm and holding at 178-180 degrees. No chickens were sacrificed to the Mopar gods. It didn't end there though, because I had also brought up with me swaybars and coilovers. By the time late afternoon had arrived, the whole front end suspension was also done. Dinner was served at Koto in Plattsburg, hibachi-style. It was the least I could do, since Erik had put me up at the BFNY B&B the night before, with one more night to go.

Erik had to work Monday morning, but cut out early so he could do the rear end suspension. He even replaced my leaky axle seal. We took her for a ride and Erik did a datalog to make sure she was running ok. I never had any doubts. 0 knock at WOT, and we feel that all is good with the Mag. He hints that there is room for more once the tune is further refined. 4:30 PM and I'm all packed and ready to go.

The drive home is nice. Clean roads, clear weather, and no traffic. Erik texts me and asks how everything is going. I reply with one word. Beautiful.

The suspension combo is ideal. I went with Hotchkis sways from the deal given by THMotorsports, and the K Sport coilovers from AE Carbon. Also got Stack's strut tower brace. Cornering is less dramatic, with barely noticeable body roll. The coilovers are currently at the middle setting, and the ride is very sporty but not harsh at all. I can compare the dampening to my brother's new E550, except that the Mag seems to corner better as well.

took the heads off first. I decided to keep my House of Power heads as I've really grown quite fond of them. They were first on the 392 in Trojan's 300C, which is now Erik's BFNY monster. I like that the exhaust ports on these heads were matched to the D-shaped ports on the 6.1 manifolds. Aside from being well ported through, it's also got upgraded springs and retainers.

out with the 345...

to make room for the 392. At Erik's suggestion, we changed the oil pump (6.1) & timing set. Cheap insurance.

In with the new(er)... The 392 had studs instead of headbolts, and I could tell from the amount of cursing and foul language that despite their benefits, they are a pain in the ass to install.

Even got a new & shiny flexplate from Mr. Bill Schurr.

Motor done. New strut tower brace installed.

front coilover. Hotchkis sways were also installed, front & back.

rear suspension setup.

My Maggie just grew up :)

racing in the rain makes for a dirty Mag. Oh, she's so dirty....

a few more additions this past month:

tinted Sonar LED tails (this was the first time I did this, took hours of polishing)

shaved and metallized '09 Eagle intake

tinted red, it looks almost like Hemi31's 6.1 intake...He's gonna kill me.

and the long overdue wiper delete, using a custom Hemi wing that I designed and had cut.

Back from BFNY...

And as usual, no drama on the 350-mile drive back home.

Back in December, I hydrolocked my motor, an Arrington 5.7-based 392 shortblock built for boost w/ 9.6:1 compression using House of Power heads (ported/polished, Manley springs and titanium retainers, exhaust ported for 6.1 manifolds/headers), HHP Stage 2 cam, and an Eagle intake with CTP adapter plates.

That motor ran strong, and I ran my personal best of 12.11 @ 110 with it, at 4465 lbs.

Very heartbroken, I had the Mag transported up to BFNY and Erik worked out putting together a new motor with help from Arrington (thanks again Don).

We ended up with a 6.1-based 392 with ported Eagle heads, an Arrington cc607 cam, and the "prototype" 6.1 intake manifold I got from Ebay. Needless to say, my heartbreak was short-lived.

Fast-forward to 1/15/2011, I arrived at BFNY at 9AM and the block was in.

At the end of the day, the top end of the motor was in as well, along with the new wiring harness and coilpacks (no more shorty plug wires). Spent the night at Erik's and again was greeted by the Great White Cat of the North

The next day, woke up to a balmy -2 F,

and we would see the rest of components go in, hoses, fluids, etc. I also got 88lb/900cc injectors from FIC (same as ID1000's), and a 90mm Arrington TB. Erik machined out the prototype intake to accept it, but in the end, we had to use 6.1 injectors and the stock TB with an adapter plate for the ride home. AJ/Hemituner decided it would be safer to tune it personally, and not via email considering he had to scale down the injectors a lot.

The scenario above being what it was, I drove down with instructions not to bring RPMs up past 3K until it was tuned. I thought it was going to really suck, but I was surprised. This motor is going to be insane. It. pulls. hard. The intake whistles and the RPMs climb very quickly, although I had to keep it from going past 3500 or so. I averaged 20.6 mpg without a proper tune while varying my rpms across the 2k-3k band the whole time. I'm very pleased and I can't wait till AJ gets her tuned with a new PCM.

After opening up my old motor, it turns out that the only thing damaged was the one Compstar I-beam rod that Erik posted a pic of. Erik ran a hone down the cylinder walls, and said they were fine. Heads are being checked as well, but looks like they're ok too. I guess I could have saved a lot of money by just having the rod replaced. Oh well. Someone is gonna have a nice 5.7-based 392 for a great price. Erik will put it together and handle it.

the hybrid 6.1 intake is powdercoated and on:

and with the help of Mike (Italianwhiplash), we installed my Volant catback that I got over Christmas.
out with the old SuperBee catback:

and in with the new:

not bad for $250 + shipping :)

some beefy clamps:

and...she's quieter than before, quieter than the Superbee catback I had on previously. Just the way I like it.

Installed a rear diffuser. Maybe it'll help with some rear downforce for the track.

oh yea...been meaning to post this up too :)

#4834 on the right. Lost the round and broke out by a whole lot, but...in the 11's baby !
Full interior too, minus spare, jack, and cargo covers.

Update:

Took the Mag to a roadcourse event in last April '11, and motor siezed. Turns out, the new powdercoated intake manifold had some grit/prep material in it that wasn't cleaned out. I thought I got it all before I put it on, but apparently not. 6.1-based 392 was toast. Got her back before Christmas and she's got even more power than before. My hearfelt thanks go out to Erik (Hemi31), AJ (Hemituner), Will (NYC_SRT8), Ed (SRT-ED), Jason (jsjahonda) for having my back.
