I used to post here a lot...this site helped me tremendously when I first got my SRT8. But..sadly my Husband passed away..my daughter is getting her license in a month. I don't want her in my car. I don't want to sale it..but..I'm trying to decide..should I sale my baby..buy or trade for an SUV or whatever that I'm not nervous for my daughter to drive..or is it worth keeping..it runs great..Exterior isn't 100%..interior is great. here also is a crux..one of the SRT8 rims is cracked..payed for it to be welded..didn't hold..now my baby is at the tire shop..and awaiting them locating a rim. I'm so torn..sale it? Trade it? Keep it? And why can't my tire shop find a rim..it's been there for 12 days. It had a code re tranny.i fixed that..it runs great. Never once let me down.

I know now and remember..the etiquette here..I haven't posted in ages..life went on..I moved to Dripping Springs haven't been to Moparfest in a year or two. Put please..just wondering..what is my baby worth..and if I wanted to sale him ..how would I go about it?

I really dont want to be in a boring old SUV..but two daughter quickly approaching driving age..one wants a Ford Edge?? Lol..sigh. I know I'm rambling. It is just that..we live on a fixed single ,
mom budget in a very expensive area (school) i can slap an engine or tranny in a chevy very easily. If this car ever goes down..I can't fix it. All my male friends are urging me to sale due to his age...ughhhhhh..thoughts?

Really should not be hard to find a wheel, depending on what you're willing to pay. Most individual sellers won't want to break up a set of 4 unless they already have some with significant damage as well. Check with LKQ and car-part.com for a replacement wheel near you.

I'd say an SRT8 (or even an R/T) would be a poor choice for a kid's first car. It's way too easy to get in trouble with just a little bit of pedal. Plus, large, low cars with plastic bumpers don't fare well with inexperienced drivers.

If it didn't get flooded, Houston should be a really good market for clean used cars for the next several months as people are looking to replace their ruined cars - estimated 500,000 flooded-out cars in Harris county alone. This should help the used market a lot. How much it's worth will depend on miles and condition. Details, pics?

No way I'd let a teenager drive a SRT. Buy a cheap used econo car for them. When my daughter started driving I gave her a Chevy Cavalier that was worth about $1800. It didn't take her long to wreck it. After letting her ride the bus for a while, I bought an $800 Buick Skyhawk which was basically the same car. She drove that for 2 years without incident.

It's really up to you. Can you afford insurance on multiple vehicles? The older 300's don't seem to fetch as much as the charger srt8's (there's an srt8 300 on craigslist here for 7kish, compared to the 15k I paid for my charger), so I would be hesitant to sell it unless absolutely necessary, but the older it gets, the more it will cost to maintain.

If the car is paid off. I say fix the rim or buy another set of wheels. I paid just over 600 bucks for a brand new set of hellcat replicas for my srt. I say keep it if you can. If you have the budget to buy another car without selling it then do so. But why add a bill, a responsible driver is a responsible driver regardless of what the car is. Take care of it and it'll last. Just my opinion.

I agree with the idea of getting a beater for your daughter. I will be in the same boat in another 2 years, and no way my 16 year old will be driving any of my cars, they are all north of 400hp and too dangerous for an inexperienced driver.

She wants a 68-69 Mustang, Camaro, or Firebird, but I told her not until she has 3+ years of driving experience.

My father's advice when I was a teen was a standard cab 2 seater mid-size pickup.. Tacoma, Ranger, Frontier, etc. his though process was this, with a 2 seater I would not have a bunch of friends in the vehicle distracting me as I drive. illegal in CA to have people in the truck bed without seats and seatbelts. my first 2 years driving was in a crap box 1979 Toyota Truck.. But I was allowed to drive dads '62 Corvette and his '68 T-Bird when he was with me.

When I graduated high school and had 2 solid years of driving experience, Dad helped me buy and build up a 1978 Trans Am.

if you can afford it, the car, insurance, etc. I would try and find a good running late 1990s early 2000s pick-up, let her learn on that and allow her to drive the SRT only when you are with her.

Agree with the 2 seater no friends piled up car. Maybe a little miata, girls like convertibles, they can be had in nice condition for well under $3k. And they are not too fast. When my son turns 15 we will start building him a nice old jeep, he loves jeeps, he's gonna have to put in the wrench time to make it nice, I think that will make him respect it and appreciate it and care for it more then if I just bought one for him. If he keeps his grades up, I'll foot the bill. After a few years with 0 accidents I'll help him get a new car or whatever he wants. If he wrecks it hes on his own for replacing it, if he's at fault that is.

that was my dads thinking.. that's why he helped me build the Trans Am, if I wrenched on it I would have more appreciation for it and want to keep it in good shape. Sadly a drunk driver totaled that car for me a year later.. But the lesson was learned,

I bought my daughter an older Honda. She drove that car for 4 years. I let her drive the SRT with my in it at vacant parking lots. She is now an excellent Driver and I let her borrow the SRT anytime. You know you will regret getting rid of the SRT if you do.

keep the 300 and buy your daughter a car with less horsepower. buy her a used mopar, and you both could mod them and ride together to car meets.

I got a dodge magnum sxt for sale with 135k miles, still runs great.
A 16 year old girl (or boy for that matter) with a magnum and its nice big flatbed to get busy on.. spells teen pregnancy in my book..
