Snow Tires - Brand? Size? Price?

If you've already put snow tires on your RWD RT (or 300c), could you do the rest of us a favor and post what brand of tire you went with, what size, and what price you paid?

Nokian Hakkapleiita SUV (a top rated snow tire IMHO)
Size: 235-60-18
Price: $220 per tire installed and balanced including tax (Canadian Dollars)

Slightly larger tire than stock but only 1.5% error in rolling distance. Not enough to cause any problems. I have not asked the dealer to change the pinion factor in the ECU. They fit on the stock rims but I purchased afternarket aluminum wheels: ASA model ST-3. They are available in the required offset and bolt pattern of 5 x 115mm.

If you can still find old stock there may be some Michelin Pilot Alpin tires in 235-60-18 out there - I believe Tire Rack has stock of the Michelins. The have been discontinued for 2004.

Size: 235/60 R18
Price: $239.40 per tire plus installation (Canadian Funds)

I purchased a set of RT rims and rubber FROM eBay for $750 USD and had the snows mounted on those rims.

we are going the blizzak route in 235/55r18 for about $155 each mounted and balanced also have heard good reviews on these na dare using the stock wheels. you will have to do all 4 because of the size difference.

I got about 1000 miles on the Blizzacks. They handle and feel better than the original Contis! In the snow they are great. In the ice thier clain is no studs needed. I will post after true experiance.

Tire rack carries most of this stuff and has the best prices. You can DROP ship them to your installer also.

True enough - but I was hoping for a local dealer perhaps differ shipping costs. I also tend to spend my money in Canada with local businesses rather than go elsewhere. I'll user tirerack as a last resort.

I'm aware snow tires for 18" wheels aren't often in stock, but based on the quotes I'm getting 240$ CND fundz with install is pretty good.

I just checked tire rack. the perellis are $145 us. shipping has cost me $40 each time I have dealt with them for four tires and 3 day shipping. I do understand supporting the "home town" folks. My local dealer told me to use tire rack as he simply could not match the selection and price. He also knows I am a fanitic when it comes to performance in tires. The Blizzacks I use are only rated 99 mph. I did a run at 125 mph for 15 minutes the other night in PA and had no trouble or signs of broken cords. Good luck.

I am sure that the speed rating includes a very big margin, did you get any NVH vibrations FROM the tires at that speed?

I purchased them FROM www.tiretrends.com. This Canadian company is located in BC - if you give them a call at 1-877-920-8473 and ask for Arch he will be able to help you out. By using Tire Trends instead of the Tire Rack you do not have to worry about duty, brokerage fees, extra taxes, etc. You only have to pay $10 per tire for shipping and thats pretty much it (they send the tires via Purolator).

No vibrations at all. Just me trying to bend the floor under the gas pedal!! Wooooped by a $&% car. I have to defeat the speed limiter somehow. If I remember the speed rating system, it is a 24 hour rating at normal summer temps. If my memory :oops: is anywhere near right I had a rather good safety margin.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their input.

Using these recommendations, and some printouts FROM the TireRack, I managed to find a local shop that will be installing a set of 235/55R18 Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50s on my stock wheels next week. After a $120 trade-in allowance for the OEM Continental Sealers (with 1k miles on them), my total cost should be around $550!

They actually had a set of 255/55HR18 Blizzak LM-22s in stock, but the final cost would have been nearly twice that of the WS-50s.

Of course, this means that, come spring, I'll be forced to get a new set of wheels and some summer tires... darn! <grin>
