What about a catch can?

Have you guys been following the oil catch can threads that have been popping up? There's an el cheapo way to do it with parts from Home Depot and Kragen. Then there are a couple of more expensive options, one for $95 and one for $145, but neither are tailored for the 5.7, although it looks like there is one sort of ready for the 6.1 at the $145 level.

The more expensive choices are both billet, as is the cheapie (crappy) stuff on EBay.

Its a pretty simple thing, or so it seems. An aluminum bottle, a mounting bracket, some 1/4" MPT / 1/2" hose barbs (actually the market uses 3/8" which are too small imho since stock is 1/2" ID tubing)
and a drain plug at bottom. Inside is some uber-coarse steel wool in an inner chamber that attaches to the top half.

Something you guys can do? This is a mod thats about to explode on this platform, I think. Lots of people buying in.

EDIT: What we need are the can with barbs sticking out, and a bracket. I can do the hose at Kragen for two bucks.

Here's one for $95.

http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...vid=3&pcid=316

But I'd rather buy it from BT of course, if we can. My mod works now so I can wait if the response is positive. Otherwise I'll buy the linked one I think.

I too just picked up the HomeDepot catch can, but would upgrade in a heartbeat if BT would make a catch can that was designed for our cars and would fit under the stock engine cover.

Well I am on the fence, I like this one :

McKinney Catch Can

I like the design, Only issue would be the rather smallish fluid trap.

I keep seeing posts about these..are people having issues where these are actually needed on our stock based motors? I have typically only seen these used w forced induction in the past.

The small catch is sort of an issue, and just looking at it I'm not so sure about the engagement on the lower portion. I'd rather see an o-ring sealed threaded piece... and the air filter seems to me an unnecessary addition. Plus the fittings are 3/8". I want 1/2" ID.

The flow design sure is nice though.
