TRYING TO PUT 22'S ON IT?
I'm trying to put 22's on my C and I'm running out of time. I was told before, "Yeah, no problem" FROM the guy thats drilling them for me. Now he calls me and said, "Since the stock wheel has a +24mm offset, we can't drill them because the 22" rim has a +40mm offset and that would ruin the suspension right away" Is that true? My car now is a 2002 Dodge Intrepid ES and I had 20's on that with a +38mm offset. The suspension didn't go, just the shocks did. What's the offset on a stock 16" Intrepid wheel? Can I really ruin the supension on my 300C? The SHOW is in 17 days. Help

It just sounds to me like he's trying to put on the wrong wheel. If he had the proper wheel with the proper offset, he shouldn't have any problem putting it on your car.
Putting the wrong offset on your car can do one of two things. If the offset is too large, your wheels will stick out of the fenders and create a strain on the suspension. If it's too small, you'll rub up against the brake calipers. Either way, it's not good to do. If you really need these rims for a show, you could drive the car to the SHOW and put the rims on it there, but I wouldn't leave them on the car. |

This sounds like a Science Project can wrong! He-He!. :D
If the 300C has an offset of et24 then an offset of et40 is too large and of course all wrong. That et40 would push the wheel inward to much. If you are set on using the wheels with et40 you will also need to use/add some spacers. Perhaps 15mm. That would change the offset FROM et40 to et25. Good Luck. OH Anthony, what is the bolt pattern on the 22's and the bolt patter of the 300C? Is it 5x114.3 for the 22's and 5x115 for the 300C? Is so, why redrill that. 114.3 and 115 are so close. That is only .7mm difference. I heard that it is possible to use 114.3 on 115 using "Moveable Seat" lugs.

I'm wondering if we need a wheel swap forum. For example, the first thing many of us are doing is ditching our new wheels and tires, and most enthusiasts here are getting 18" wheels/tires that I'm sure those purchasing lower end models would love to get.

I can see it a now...
A plethora of Magnum / 300 stock wheels and tires on Ebay! :D Your best place to sell those RT and C wheels would be to the owners of the lower end models.

The May 2004 issue of Motor Trend (page 134) has a good article titled "Fitting Big Wheels."

Sell the takes off quick! I want to sell the 20's off my Ram now. When they first came out the 20's were going for about $1000 or more just for the wheels, now you can hardly get $600 for a set of the 20's, while the 17's will still sell for $400-$500 a set.
What is the bolt pattern on the 300C? Is it a 5x115 or a 5x5.5? The 5x115 is the same as the old 300M (and intrepids, and minivans, etc) the 5x5.5 is the same as the Ram and new Durango. Both patterns should have a ton of options out there, if not places like Stocton Wheel can change offset. |

300M has always been 5x114.3. GM and Cadillac are famous for 5x115 wheels. So far the rumors and some Chrysler insiders say that the 300C will have 5x115 et24. I have been searching for suitable 5x115 wheels for my upcoming 300C and Magnum for months and have found little. There are not "tons of options" for 5x115 especially with a low offset of et24. If the specs of 5x115 et24 are true I speculate that custom rims for these cars will be slow at first - because wheel companies will have to retool and make new wheel casts.

Maybe I'm just confused but the 5x114.3 will definately fit a 5x115 and vice versa. You are talking about less then one millimeter. It's basically the difference in converting 5x4.5" wheels to metric (which is exactly 5x114.3 but the aftermarket just rounded to 5x115) I have 17" 5x115 wheels on my Grand Caravan and the snow rims i use originally came off of a Pontiac Grand Prix. There should be tons lower offset wheels with a 5x4.5" pattern. That is what most of the Ford and Dodge musclecars used right? I'm sure I have seen lots of Cuda's rolling on 20's at carshows, maybe not many 22's though. If it really does have to have a 5x115, and a 5x144.3 won't work then maybe search for wheels FROM the 86-87 Grand Nationals or caddys, there probably aren't tons of option in that case. But if the 5x4.5 fits then don't the mustangs use that, and the Ford Explorers. Centerline makes 20" wheels with low offset in the 5x4.5, Alba has a few 22's, Boss has some 20's, I guess the 22's are hard to come by.

The wheels I'm trying to put on it are 22x9.5 with a 5x5 bolt pattern and a +18mm offset. The GM FROM the company is telling me there's not enough room to drill a 5x4.5 on the rim and they refuse to use a blank for insurance reasons? Then he says, if it's true it has a 72mm center bore he can. I'm still waiting for his call for more info, until then does this sound right to anyone. I HAVE to put a 22's on it. Any advice

Not only can you damage your new car, you could kill somebody when something fails. Why not donate the money to a good charity and forget the extreme / bizarre wheels? I have been in car shows, and if a good car can't win without such things, there are plenty of other shows where it would win.
