methodilogically we are an informed, concerned, and educated group of grease monkies. the only argument may be that while numbers reflect the relative conditions and variables, real life numbers (rubber meets the road) may be different, But With, same increment of impovement relative to real world use. looking at the A/F mixture it is clear that even more power is available if we can get more fuel delivered, the flow was that good. I guess I need to give up on my traffic cone modification.......imagine the uproar that would cause.!

Haha, you oughta clam up on that and go git yerself a patent! Did anyone tell you we saw something almost like that at the track? An airhorn looking thing poking out where a headlight should have been! I laughed my butt off at that one, and thought of your design!

So your experts say that the fact the AI, was above the hood line, the hood was open, and a fan was blowing air over the car, will not skew the results?
Were all the intakes tested the same (no)? Was the 'throw away' run done with the smaller filter sticking up like the AH AI or was the hood just open? Reasonable questions raised by reasonable people.

IDD - I belive the following to be correct :
Hood Open w/ Air Hammer Monster filter Hood Closed w/ Air Hammer + S&B Small filter Hood Open w/ Air Hammer + S&B Small filter There was no differance between the hoop open and hood closed. Tony - there is enough temp data on these forums thats hows that under hood temps while teh car is moving is maybe 5-10* over ambiant at best and if I recall correctly its much closer to ambiant temps wile moving. Something you have to remember is that almost 200 + previous dyno runs and an data that has been collcted, tere are a lot of things we thought would show up and make huge differnaces, and they didnt do anything. This have been closely watched by people and the guys at SVS are jonny on the spot with solid back ground on R&D work and working on high performace cars. If you think you can do better please post up your testing methods, and your data and do it. -Robert |

I don't think Meister ran down the track with the hood open and a fan blowing. Not only that, but he ran the small (sic) filter. I think the "publicity pictures" should not override the tests. I also think it would make more sense to discuss the sound or music of the questioned system. I read every post as it was posted during the week and it was clear to me that video of Brunos car was to give a taste of what was going on and the Dyno with the "filter that wont fit and with the open hood was not going to be included in the official results for obvious reasons. Please correct me if I'm wrong, it happens from time to time.

Tony i am not jumping on you, and I know thats how it looks the way that was posted. That was a general statement to all the guys picking some nits on things to that really dont matter.
You have been on the bleeding edge and I think everyone apperciates that, and what you contribute to the forums. There are some here that contribute nothing and pick at what others are doing, and to be honest it is starting to wear thin. -R

Robert, If you were there in person, do you remember if - Hood Open w/ Air Hammer + S&B Small filter - had the filter sticking up in the air, or was it recessed and just had the hood open? Thanks!

Hey ...you aint stepping on my toes!! I see moments like this as opportunities! And, in fact, I welcome critical thought and open discussion about things as long as it is done in a reasonable and respectful fashion! You koo.... I'm koo tell ya what tho... IF you ( or anyone for that matter) buys it and it just dont make yer nipples hard every time you tromp the git-pedal, I will buy it back. That is my policy. You dont dig it, it smells funny, or it makes your cats farts orange, I buy it back. The only thing you will be out is shipping. Hows that? Fair Enough?

Yes, IDD, the filter was recessed just as it would be in the normal driving position; Rob feel free to fill in here if you saw something different. Also, yes, the small outside and up test showed statistically identical results (I'll get up a graph to show this as time permits). And, you guys should know by now, question asking don't ruffle these feathers. Credibility attacks do, and I think we can move on from that now. Ok, back to crunching numbers! |

Some Q&A 65 and I exchanged:
why does this intake more power than all the others? it seems that it is all in the filter and not the huge tube. I've yet to post the results, but believe it or not the AFE Stage 2 we also tested yielded some nice results. The Frankentake did too (edit: negate that; thats why averaging and taking yer time with the results is so important!), but not near as well as these two did. After talking about this thing with many folks, we think it has to do with the inside radius and the conical shape, as well as a large filter. The internal radius of this thing (as opposed to the AFE Stage II) is as large as it can be and yet still make the turn. The AFE has the same cone idea, but it has a 90 radius into the intake. Maybe thats the difference?? did meister's old setup using his 3 1/2" tube with the same monster filter make make 1 Hp more than the airhammer? I need to get those results crunched, but I think Meister's' rig on a stock setup netted a couple hp only. No where near the AFE and AH. did i read the airhammer intake with a slightly smaller filter make no more power than the factory intake? Reread the first post here. The numbers are within it. why won't this fit in a magnum? what does it hit? how can i modify the magnum to fit this intake with the large filter? I'll need Rev to answer this one. I didn't pop the hood on a Charger there to see for my own eyes. Last edited by CoolVanilla; 10-16-2006 at 12:15 AM. |
