Small update on SRT-8 issues NEW UPDATE 04/11

Today I received another email from Dan at SRT and he has passed my issues along to the SRT engineers, and they will be contacting me soon to assist me in diagnosing the problems.

As a refresher, here are the issues that I'm talking about:

Had the 1-2 shift problem, then replaced TCM to correct it.

After TCM replacement, power is cut significantly. Not only in poor transmission response, but the car itself feels de-tuned to a great extent.

Brembo issues with rotor scoring which has now turned into the car not stopping as well as it did when new.

Dan says that yes, there is a new fix for the brakes, and it is estimated to be released in the next 6 weeks. He says the problem is a thing of the past, and the wait is only to get all of the right parts into place in their system.

I am not normally a patient person, but as long as I know someone is trying to help I have no problem waiting for a resolution. SRT is on top of this and willing to do whatever it takes to make me happy, and I am very appreciative... so I will sit back and wait patiently.

I have to say I am very impressed with their quick responses, and positive attitude. So far their customer service is top notch... now if only we can see a solid resolution soon I'll be very happy.

I'll update again once I get some new info.

I have a problem with the 1-2 shift as well and I did have the TSB done on our MSRT8. Please continue to update us on your efforts and thank you.

Good news on the brakes especially! I'll wait until then instead of getting new pads now.

Just a passing thought; I read somewhere that horsepower is reduced by engine management when lower octane gas is put in. Could it be possible they filled her up at the shop and put 87 octane in?

Another idea is to get them to put the old TCM back in but I imagine you already thought of that as long as they haven't thrown the old one.

Good luck,
FrankO

Franko... you and I think a lot alike.

I am one of those PITA customers that hovers and will not leave my car unattended when it is in service. They have never put gas in the car.

As a matter of fact, they screwed up when they delivered it to me, it was on empty, so I made the very first fill-up myself as well.

I swung by there today to give them printed copies of my emails with SRT to keep them in the loop, and asked if they still had my old TCM from last week. Turns out that they did and I asked for it to be put back in. They said they could not put it back in because you can't go backwards, but they did reset my current (new) TCM to factory settings.

It made no difference whatsoever.

On a side note, on the way TO the dealership this morning the car decided to give me the old 1-2 problem where the throttle cut out for a good half second. This is the first time since the new TCM was installed, so SRT's upgrade DOES NOT work. I was able to duplicate this action over and over again today.

I noticed the 1-2 problem and rotor scoring also. Also have a the sub woofer sounds blown. Also, the little piece of chrome trim around the shifter keeps popping up.

Mach1, I might be able to help you on the sub issue.

When I took delivery of my SRT and finally got the stereo adjusted to get some "boom going" I heard what sounded like a blown speaker.Luckily it was not blown, and easily remedied.

Pull your rear seat forward and look at how your sub box is sitting. You'll see metal on metal contact at the very top where the mounting plate "hooks" over the top metal bar behind where the seatback rests.

Place a tiny, but thick, piece of cardboard between the mount and the bar and the sound will dissapear entirely. If done right, you'll never see it.

I can jam my stereo at full volume with the craziest bass CD I have and the sound has never come back.

Hopefully this is the same for you. Good luck.

i strongly beleive this statement is inaccurate. this is not a flash which is irreversible (although MagnumFreak proved this theory wrong). this is a simple module swap. i'd ask them for the old module and replace it myself to see if it reverts back to original behavior since the new module seems to have accomplished little to solve your rev limiter bump.

good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for that tip on the speaker.I'll give that a try. My .02=Kinda crappy that we have to use cardboard to make the stereo sound right! I also appreciate all the work you are doing and letting us know.

Totally agree. Sounds like they are bluffing or don't want to try it.

I'm trying to get a clarification on this issue.

Are we talking about a hesitation from 1st to 2nd in Drive or when your in manual shifting mode?

Is it just 1st to 2nd or at all shift points?

Is this with ESP on, off, half off or totally off when you get it spelled out on the gauge?

I'm asking this because mine had the problem in drive and with the ESP totally off in manual but I'm wondering if I hit the rev limiter even though I wasn't to the red line when I was in manual mode.

Last night in drive with ESP totally off it shifted fine from 1st to second.

I'm going to go play with it today. I'm off!

Later

Both

Is it just 1st to 2nd or at all shift points?

1-2 but has hiccupped once or twice in 2nd going to 3rd.

Is this with ESP on, off, half off or totally off when you get it spelled out on the gauge?

ESP on, and off in stage 1. Yesterday I tried with ESP off all the way and it didn't want to hesitate. But I need more testing to be sure that wasn't a fluke.

Regarding the piece of cardboard and subwoofer problem: Hit HomeDepot for a pack of those little self-adhesive rubber feet, or little felt squares, or neoprene squares, the kind you'd use under a vase or something to keep it from scratching a nice table or whatever. (Since I don't have the kicker, I don't know how big the area is...)

I use tons of these in my recording studio to get bass rattles out of furniture, wall panels, lighting fixtures, etc.

Also, 3m makes an "anti-squeak" tape, that is really slippery. Although maybe not exactly right for this application, a half-inch of it can cure a bad squeak or rattle instantly.
