calling FRI sidewinder users
Ok guys, here is the deal. I have a 05 Ram and I am planning on doing a cam. Only problem is not many guys over on DT run FRI stuff (not a vendor there anymore). I have been going back and forth with one member who does run the cam but is a a QC and weighs alot more than I do. I did a little searching around through here and I see many of you car guys like the cam.
I am curious as to how you guys like your cams still to this day? ever had any problems with codes or stalling. I know Diablo has been more friendly to the lx guys than us truck guys. So I am sticking with the SC, and for some fine tuning run a psc, like doing things myself anyways. Also curious as to how much these cars actually weigh on the scales. I know my truck should be around 48-5k with me in it (210). I am seeing some impressive times for what times from the sidewinder guys over here, from what the DT guys call such a mild cam. Any MS people near and dear that know how to install cams? wouldnt mind someone watching over me to make sure I do it right! thanks guys Richard

I have over 50,000 miles on my MILD sidewinder cam and still love it. It's probably a good choise for a truck. My Magnum probably weights 4,300 without me.

These cars typically weigh 4000-4400 in street trim. When I have all the weight stripped my car weighs about 3800-3900. I had the sidewinder in my car for a little over a year, first with stock heads then with Inertia heads. I had no issues on the street and it ran fine. I made 359 rwhp on stock heads and make about 378 rwhp after heads. My best 1/4 mile was 13.19 on stock heads and 12.79 after heads. Prior to doing heads/cam my best time was 13.7.

No regrets on my sidewinder. Performs great and can run off the predator tuner with some minor tweaks if a full custom tune is not in the budget.

Mt RT AWD weighed in at 4450 with me in it on the day of my best runs. The sidewinder was the key part of the puzzle to go from 14.6 to 12.8

Bottom line, the heavier the vehicle is the more advantage a torque building cam like the sidewinder will have. One could step it up a bit to something like the Littleboy/Sparrow but keep in mind you will need a bit of extra tuning to keep the PCM happy and things like MDS become more difficult to maintain.

I just put about 1200 miles on my 4300lb Magnum RT in a tick over 17 hours, and all I can say is that this thing can be ferocious when you want it to be, yet mild mannered in traffic, and now with the 93/CAI/tweaked Predator tune it even averaged 25.1 mpg for this leg of the trip.
I've had it a year or so now and the sidewinder with the 6.1 valve train bits on stock heads combo pulled a half second off my 1/4 times, best of 13.5 @ 104. I have to say that on the initial startup I was thinking it should have more 'lope' to it, but then again, it is a 'mild' cam. Mild my butt - when this thing passes 2800-3000 rpm the whole attitude of the car changes into just plain ferocious, passing is a curl of the toe and you find yourself going a whole lot faster than you wanted to. I really have to pay attention a lot more than before - and the added bonus of it being able to hold MDS a LOT more than before is kinda cool. I <heart> my Sidewinder - now I just need a decent set of heads and I might be able to keep up with Done. Maybe. Do it, you won't regret it! Mike

I have had my Spartan 214/218 on a 114 LSA in for 20K plus miles and with the 2800 TC, stock 2.82 rear and 28.66" tall tires
ran a 12.949 at 107 mph. Car weighs 4305 w/me at 200 lbs. With the right tuning she pulls very hard and has good manners on the street. She gets 16 MPG in the city driving it hard and highway 24 mpg at 75-80 mph.

Best entry cam and proven many times over.

I had it and it was a torque monster for sure. I sold it and now kicking my self in the a$$ now that i want to wake up my 05' hemi durango. No matter, I'll hopefully be picking one up next week when i drive to Houston to get my charger tuned. I'm thinking I can slap it in the durango even without it being tuned. Then when diablo comes out with the durango tuning even more fun!!! Wife already has been prepped and has been told it will help save gas lol!
