Wheels & Tires - FWD vs RWD (and some other questions)

I have been shopping for Rims / Tires for the Magnum. Some sites specify FWD or RWD. What's the difference? I have AWD, so what would be best for my application

Some of the rims I like are 18X9, will these fit? what is the stock rim width?

Also, what is the lug size? 5-5" 5-5 1/2"???

I just asked this question on another forum, basiclly FWD wheels are flat faced were as RWD are dished.

http://www.60degreev6.com/index.php?...651&highlight=

I believe the bolt pattern is 5x115, I was looking at RT rims to put on my GP, check out tirerack.com they should tell you the bolt pattern.

FWD, as the term implies, are designed for FWD cars. They generally have a larger offset, in the 40 to 45 MM range. The offset on our AWD's is 55 MM. A 45 mm offset wheel will work. The 9 inch width may not.

Thanks. What's the stock width?

Do you still have the stock rims on your AWD?

So I assume I should go with RWD for the RT AWD?

No, you would go the FWD. The RWD rims typically have offsets in the 18 to 24 mm range.

If you're talking stock wheels, I believe they're 7.5".

I recently did a lot of research for wheels on the AWD. I put on 8.5" wide wheels with a 5 x 115 bolt pattern, +42 offset, 245mm tires. You would be fine with up to a 275mm tire with that setup. Any wider, and you'll probably need to go with a lower offset, which would probably start pushing the tire outside of the fender.

I would also recommend that you either get hub centric wheels or make sure you get the appropriate hub centric adapter to fit the wheels. Otherwise, you're centering the wheels on the bolts rather than the center bore of the wheel.

Also, make sure, when you place an order, that you let them know that they are going on an AWD Magnum and make sure that you can return them if they aren't the correct fit for the car.

Thanks! Exactly what I needed.

So what rim did you go with? I really want to go with a Craiger SS or Torque thrust II look. But I don't think they'll fit.

I'm too lazy to retype it. Here's the link to the post I made after getting my wheels.

They look great. I'm inferno Red AWD also.

I think i'm gonna try to stay with the stock 18 sizing though. Where did you purchase, get a good deal?

I purchased through a local tire store. I could have gotten better pricing online, but when it comes to something like wheels, I just didn't feel comfortable doing that. I like to have a live person and storefront to go to if I have problems. You still have to be careful there though, not all employees know what they're talking about... they're just trying to sell wheels!

It's good you're doing your research first. I didn't check into all the requirements before getting my first set of wheels. Got the wrong offset and bolt pattern. It was a pain, but it turned out alright.

There's nothing wrong with sticking with 18's. All the wheel requirements remain the same. Good luck in your search.
