The Billet Tech Mystery Mofo Intake...

Word broke earlier today that the Billet Technology intake tested at MFO6 was in fact a Frankentake. I was asked by BT to write up the opening announcement of that intake in this event summary thread, and you'll see why in a minute if you don't know the history of the Frankentake project.

First, some background. I have done a lot of testing and experimenting with intakes over the last few years. In August of 2006, I put together a cheap, effective intake built up from inexpensive, off-the-shelf parts. That was Frankentake III, and its two build threads here and here have about 16,000 views and a zillion posts attached to them. Its been an on-again, off-again subject ever since. More people have since built their own intakes out of parts, but Frankentake III was the first all-from-scratch grassroots creation.

It was tested at MFO 5 and didn't set the world on fire. On a bone stock 5.7 it lost a little ground, and on a highly modified one it gained some. For sound it was rated #2 (behind the AirHammer) and the conclusion has generally been its a great option for looks and sound, with its chief strength being low cost.

How do I feel about this BT effort? I think its fantastic. Especially since it tested well under current cars and conditions. When I put the Frankentake project out there to the world, it was for everybody's benefit, but I was not going to get into the intake business. To this day people PM me and ask me about building one for them and I decline. Now, the answer is Yes, and from what I hear the price point is going to be aggressive.

BT has offered me some royalty compensation (repeatedly) since it was my idea they are using, and I have declined. I put the components out there specifically so other people could use them, and am happy they are decent, ethical folk who give credit where its due. Besides, if I took any payola, CoolVanilla would kick me off the MFO staff, and then instead of working in a freezing (or oven-baked) shop for hours I would have to sit in a lawn chair with a soda, in the parking lot, watching those guys all bust their asses.

waitaminute...

Breaking news!

Wait... did the rest of this get chopped off?? Or were you too busy sitting under the palm tree with your umbrella drink with all this newfound income! LOL!

What is even more surprising is that no-one has posted in this thread - and it's almost 12 hours 'old' !!

Matt - I built my intake using your info and have had it on for two years now and loved every minute of it. I get people asking me day in and day out about it on here , other forums and in person. I have saved the links and refer them to it.

Cudos to you and to BT for doing this. Once they get it going I will link people to them.

Can anybody explain, why on a stock car 5.7 HEMI, as tested at MFO 5, this type of intake lost power but on a car with a superchips operating, it makes power???
