Road course rental head count
This is the latest as of 1/5
Gathered a ton of information from NJMotorsportspark.com today. We are going to have this rental there and most likely going to use the Lightning course. Initially I wanted to use the Thunderbolt course but it seems its a pretty technical course. For our first time out I think we should get on a track thats not gonna kill our cars and brakes. Lightning course is 2 miles long and allows for higher speeds. ![]() Thunderbolt course is 2.25 miles long but much more technical (harder on your car). ![]() Overview picture ![]() The lightning course is 2 miles long and actually allows for much higher speeds than the thunderbolt. Ill start a poll shortly for dates and course. I have not commited to either course and both are available to us based on the date we choose. Pricing has a huge variance based on day of the week and time of the year. Weekends are out because you have to commit to a 3 day event. Not something Im willing to do and thats way out of our league. Doing it on a Monday is probably going to be best reference pricing and the fact it might make it easier for those that have to travel down the day before. A monday in March is $3000 cheaper than a Monday in April. Monday March 30th is available. Monday April 6, 13 and 27 are available as well. Pricing is going to be based on the date we chose and the number of cars we get to participate. As of now Id say plan on $250 a person to be safe. The track is going to cost between $5,000 and $8,000. Then we have to pay for an event insurance policy, track workers and instructors. According to the track director, that will cost us around $3000. He recommends we hire 10 instructors minimum and will put me in contact with them for rates etc... I am realizing this is more than a one man operation like the 1/4 track rentals I setup. I have asked RobAGD to help us with the whole endevor, well more or less told him he was helping me ![]() Our next step is to set a date/track. I will start a poll with a pretty short voting window. I also need to put up 25% of the track fee for deposit. I will be asking for that as well. Lots to work on, lol. Lets get this done ![]() ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Talked the the New Jersey Viper club about joining them on a Road Course rental. They would love to have us and are doing one next August. Its at the NewJersey Motorsports Park venue on the Tunderbolt course. Date is Thursday August 13th 2009. Here is the link http://www.njmotorsportspark.com/tracks.html Unfortunately that date is bad for me as I have prior plans with my sons baseball team. They are going to be playing in a tournament up in Cooperstown, NY. Its too big for me to miss so I wont be able to go to this track rental. Now August is a bit further down the road than what I wanted to wait. I will continue to search for viable options that are closer to spring for us to do as a group, but we do have the August date as a choice. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As Ive been discussing in this thread: http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=140438 I am going to setup a Road course event for us whether it be a private rental or an event we share with another car club. What I need is a "serious" head count from those that will be interested and be willing to spend around $300 to do it. This should include instruction but I am learning as I go so the cost may be higher when that is factored in. I am probably going to do it at a track in the tri-state area of NY, CT or NJ. Not ruling out anything but its a starting point. Time frame is yet to be determined but Id prefer to do it in the spring or early summer. I will try to set it so it does not conflict with any of our normal events. I will be taking advice from those that have extensive road course experience with our cars and incorporate that into our event. As an example, I will be insisting that everyone bring an extra set of brake pads and brake fluid. This is a starting point and Im sure there will numerous other items that Id have to make mandatory. Please PM so I can keep track in one spot and Ill post a list here as time goes by.
