Cabin Filter Retrofit for 300C - Step by Step *

Easier that I expected. Order part 4806294-AA (was $13.36 at wycoffchrysler.com). It comes as a big plastic assy.



You'll need to remove the plastic pop rivets (white arrows) and trim retainer (orange arrow - is actually a hook that you can get easier from underneath with your finger) Carefully lift the trim up and remove the two 10mm hex nuts. A socket wrench works here.





The piece on the right is what you removed. Remove the same piece from the filter housing kit. It is seen on the left. The orange arrows indicate the mounting holes. The piece you are not using may be slightly differently designed than the one in your car. Mine had additional mounting holes in the car than was on the kit - rather than drill, the original works fine. Leave the one on the car in place. Use the new one as a trash can.
Carefully shift and wiggle the new filter housing in the space under the trim. You should NOT have to remove the wiper arms. It takes a bit of a shifting to get in as it is larger than the shroud you removed, but it will fit.



There is a slot/flange that holds the bottom of the housing in place. Be sure the filter holder is in the slot. Replace the 10mm nuts (orange arrows), use a flat wrench as it too close quarters for the socket. Do not over tighten, you just need to mildly compress the foam gasket. Slide the filter in place, close the filter door and replace the trim and asst pop and press rivets. Clean up and you're done!

The whole process took about 20 minutes and that includes stopping to get the camera and take the pictures.

Folks....this can be done without removing the small piece of cowling that sits on top of the cross bar. This also eliminates your having to remove the 10mm bolts under it too. Keep in mind this only applies if your just gonna slip in the housing that retains the filter. You should not need to replace the giant plastic housing that it all sits in. I did it this morning. Took less than 30 minutes!

All references to the left side of the car are made as you face the front of the car (passenger side)

1 - Remove passenger wiper arm by popping cap off and removing 14mm nut

2 - Remove plastic rivits from cowling (I used the forked end of a short crow bar slid between the cowling and the cross bar the rivits are inserted into and did not destroy one rivit) You should have to take about 4-5 of these out and the one on the extream left is molded to a foam cushion so you can't tell its there but it is just remove the whole thing.

3- You'll notice on the left side of the cowl there is what appears to be a philips head screw. It's a latch! Take a short philips head driver and turn it 1/4 turn clockwise to release it.

4- Over on the left side (facing the car) there is a rubber flap with a small plastic rivit it it. It's fastened to the bottom of the windshield molding. I squirted some soapy water on it and slid the rubber off the rivit head. When you put it back on you can get your fingers up under it to remove the rivit then insert it into the rubber flap and insert the rivit back in it's hole.

5- Lift the cowling out of the way as best you can, remove the 2 10mm nuts holding the screen and it's housing. Pull back on the housing and lift it out.

6 - Insert your new filter housing without the filter in it. Make sure you set the bottom of the housing in 1st to lock that tab into place then put the 2 10mm nuts back on. Don't tighten them more than about a half turn past hand tight.

7 - Reverse disassembly of the cowl and you are done!

8 - Make sure you remove ALL tools from under the hood, check twice before you close it!

It it the same part, for some reason mine was a bitch to get out. Get some spare plastics fastners before you start. Nice cheap mod, relatively.

Just got my Charger done, same parts as 300 and Magnum. Yes, I should have gotten a couple spare fasteners; one of the 2-piece fasteners now lives inside the wheel well. :(

It was VERY hard to get the filter flanges to go behind the housing piece. Overall, including a brief search for the missing fastener, took me about 45 minutes. I bow to those who do it in 20 minutes.

Just finished my install and I don't know how you guys did it. I abandoned the "Quick install" and used the instructions posted by MPSC. I killed more time trying to get the filter housing to slide down properly than to install it per MPSC's instructions. I found the above instructions great for removing the cowl top panel.
I think a combination of FLTHEMI's instructions and http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=11209
are the best route to be sure the filter housing is properly installed.

That may explain the one I found in the trunk a few weeks ago during a PDI.

It's been sitting in my garage for a few months. I found it IMPOSSIBLE to get the new housing properly positioned behind the larger assembly (there wasn't enough room to maneuver). I had to completely remove the cowling (pulled BOTH wipers) and the crossmember in the engine compartment. The filter module didn't fit very well with the original larger assembly, so i pulled it and used the new one, which I had originally thought of as useless. Turns out I needed it!

There's less room in a Charger, I think. It's a bigger job than on a 300 (not sure about Magnums), but well worth it.

As an aside, I'm glad I waited a few months to do this- if this had been the first (comparatively) major mod I'd attempted, I might have given up in disgust...

Yeah I followed the instructions of the shop manual, but I tried to install the filter piece alone in the existing plenum in the car, but I couldn't line the side and bottom tabs correctly, so I pulled the plenum and installed it properly. Took me about 45 min-1hr. to do the full install.

I to followed the instructions and it took me 1hr to install the complete
plenum box and filter, same as the above thread, take your time doing
this there alot of parts to come off, use NEW revits don't use the old ones. This filter should have been a stock item on all the LX models!

I purchased the filter seperatly from the assembly for an '06 Magnum early build. I only need the filter and not a piece of housing right?
