Question ALL vendors running their rides at same event?

No Corrected Times...same density altitude...same track...same conditions...same tire type...same interior...LX for LX . . . . ALL LX Performance Vendors in attendance.

Who would love to see that happen at an LX event THIS YEAR?

I for one would like to see it happen and I am guessing that a LOT of YOU would like to see that too.

Why has it not happened yet?

Posting numbers on the forums is great, videos are great, even random customer testimonials is great but there always seems to be some sort of rebuttal or questions.
(Did he have full interior, what tires did he run, who actually saw it, blah, blah, blah)

Before this thread gets out of control I am asking everyone to be good sportsmen about this thought. This is NOT intended to bash or flame ANYBODY, neither company or customer. I understand everybody feels strongly about the parts they bought or sell so lets agree that is understood without making this thread ugly. (Please)

Chuck (CHERRY) and I have invited EVERY Performance Parts manufacturer for the LX platform to come out to Columbus, Ohio and show their stuff in a separate Exhibition Class. Why? Because their customers and potential future customers deserve it. Neither of us are running any parts from ANYBODY, so I want to dispel any rumors right now that we work for or promote for any particular vendor. (Columbus = Switzerland)

Sound off LX community and let the performance vendors know if you would like to see this happen!!!

Again, I am pleading with every to please keep comments friendly. Would you like to see this happen, and if so would you attend an event like this?

Thank you!

Anthony

Its a great idea! One LXF/MMM would throw its full weight behind... but it has been tried before. The... details... couldn't be agreed upon...

Presumably the purpose would be to see who "the winner" is, at an event like this? Simple idea, for sure... but when you start digging into the details, it gets really complicated, really quick. For example and just off the top of my head...
  • Who gets to compete and at what?
    • 1/4mile guys? Road coarse guys? Daily driving guys?
  • What mods are allowed?
    • Heads/cams/forced induction/nitrous/exhaust/ect/ect/ect
  • How to verify those are the only mods on the car during competition?
    • Can't exactly do a tear down event day like an NHRA event.
    • Race gas vs pump vs octane boosted?
  • How to verify all cars weigh approx the same? Do we even care?
  • Should there be multiple classes?
    • Define them, then think about how to verify them?
  • What style competition?
    • Bracket? Heads up?
  • Same gears for all, or is that open to the vendor?
  • Is there a financial cap on money spent from stock?
And on and on and on.

Now if all you're thinking it to have a huge national meet and greet where the vendors setup booths and pimp their wares, where no national champ would be declared, thats different.

Food for thought. Again, LXF/MMM and me personally are willing to take point on something like this. The last time we tried, however, it fell apart when trying to get so many different perspectives to agree.

Hey if all vendors vote that way, I'm all for it. Just be careful... if you want people to show up, and make this truly a national event, you're going to have to appeal to a broader audience than a 10sec balls to the wall car draws.

CV Fastest Street Car Shootout was one of the most popular racing styles in non professional drag racing. If it has doors and tires run it. Think of it as a challenge to those who are not afraid to see what it takes to blow the block to pieces.

John you and I agree 100% on this. Its just history around here disagrees with both of us.

Maybe the approach is wrong. Why does this have to be vendor based? Why can't any member just do his or her thing, picking parts from everyone, building themselves a combo they think is the best? Maybe a dissociation from a vendor centric event might just get this off the ground?

I have to agree with CV on this one. Why not just make it a run what you brung event. Were all running these vendors parts and some of us are running multiple vendors.

As far as I'm conserned each vendor has there strong points. Why not let people see combinations that "the people" come up with instead of a vendor running all of their parts. Of course Vendors running their own vehicles will give someone the opportunity to see what each vendor has to offer.

Good idea!

But the devil IS in the details.

How many people want to see a 10 sec LX vs. the best/quickest/cleanest/Modded daily driver LX??

It would be cool to have something like this in conjunction with a national MoFO type event.

I like the heads up but maybe with multiple levels, for example;

Level 1. CAI, catbacks (with maybe hi flow cats) and your custom tune.
Level 2. Add cam, heads & headers.
Level 3. Run what you brung have at it boys!!!

The reason I suggest this is that essencially you have an event that will provide not only bragging rights but valuable info for guys looking to mod their cars at 3 financial levels. I mean this is ultimately about selling your stuff right? While we'll all love to watch the level 3 stuff probably 75% of your market is level 1, maybe 20% is level 2 and 5% is level 3.

Also having it at one location is great because living in Florida running in the heat & humidity, reading times a guy posts in Wisconsin means nothing to me. Of course it's a better time but unless I go up there or vise versa comparing times is rediculous.

What about the track in Perry, Georgia guys run on when we have the Shindig up there in the fall? Maximum exposure yes??????

And I think that is why the last attempt failed so miserably. The instant you make this a vendor face off, you've got to introduce tons of rules and limits to make it truly "fair" and thus earn the financial support of other vendors, forums and ultimately the members (potential customers, which is the point, right?).

So, maybe the whole vendor vs vendor idea isnt where this should go. Maybe it should be a member driven event. (I should point out, that too has been tried, but failed for one reason or another.)

My experience tells me that its really going to take someone or a team of someones their full time for a few months in order to pull off something like this. It will need to be scheduled a year in advance to allow people to schedule their family and vacation time. It needs to be held at a place that appeals to mom's, dad's and kids. It needs to be a 3-5 day event, not a single day. And on and on.

Or... all ya vendors rent yourself out a track, show up, square off and pick a winner amongst yourselves. Wonder how that would go...

How about this,
Why don't you ALL run what you brung, and no one wins anything except the rights to say my car went this fast and it had this or that on it???? This is for the go fast vendors, so let's not put it down as this or that race, just a vendors show off race????I LOVE the idea, I myself would LOVE to see what you guys have put together from what you sell in your shops, I wouldn't care WHO wins, I'd just like to see them run what you brung.....If you want trophies I've got a couple in my basement collecting dust that I'll bring and you can put whatever plaque you want on them....LET'S just K.I.S.S.....
