Safety Rules & Questions @ LX & BEYOND NATIONALS
I just wanted to bring some items to your ATTENTION for the upcoming
LX & BEYOND NATIONALS. I called National Trails Raceway this afternoon and here are the questions and answers that I received...................... (1)---Do your sell fuel at the track ? they sell 110; c-12, methanol, and regular (2)---Is there an air compressor with a chuck ? THERE IS ONE ON THE PIT SIDE, BY TECH (3)---Do you refill nitrous bottles at the track ? the answer is NO, but Jeg's does; they are 20 minutes away (4)---Will their be security at the track after hours ? the answer is YES; from 7pm to 7am (5)---Do you broadcast the PA announcements over the radio ? the answer is YES; on FM Station 88.3 (6)---What is the exact elevation of the track ? the answer is 900 feet above sea level (7)---Do you have a weather station at the track ? the answer is NO; so check it the day before; online (8)---Is there a scale to weigh our vehicles at the track ? the answer is YES, and it works, and it is FREE to use (9)---Can the track keep track of the Quick 16 qualifying ? the answer is YES (10)--Can the Bump Spot be posted on the scoreboard for the Quick 16 ? the answer is YES (11)--Is National Trails going to enforce the 11.49 roll bar rule ? THE ANSWER IS 100%-----YES The 2nd time your car goes quicker than 11.49 and your vehicle does NOT have a roll bar you will be disqualified and your racing is DONE !!!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Last but NOT least I can NOT stress it enough, make sure that you have your entry form and check by 4-30-08 to be eligible for Giant DOOR PRIZES. We have some Door Prizes that are worth around $1,300 each......... JUST ADDED: (as of 4-8-08) One VERY important fact that I left out is a PERFECT LIGHT or Reaction Time is .000 So if you see .412 as you Reaction Time that means that you slept in the lights by 4/10 of a second and that is NOT good. If you have any questions feel free to ask in here or PM me. Looking forward to a Great Event Chuck Green

It's just an unfortunate reality, that at this point in the LX platform's evolution, we have a lot of cars that can run quicker than 11.50, but only 1 or 2 who have already installed a rollcage. So show up with your rollcage - win the event. |

In my opinion the LX is safer than most cars there with a cage, so there should be an exception to the rule to 10.00, IMHO.

Exactly, our cars pass federal rollover protection standards and come with multiple airbags. Modern unibody construction is actually stiffer than old frame construction. THe 1970 Nova needs a rollcage JUST to become as safe as we are WITHOUT a cage.

Of course, I may still have tranny issues, so 11.2 may be all I will be able to do. Time will tell. |

You welcome Lou. Most of you know the rules of NHRA's tracks. If you can go 11.49 or quicker why NOT put a roll bar in and that way you can race anywhere and have FUN and still be safe. I had a cage in my 71 Duster with a 446 cu in Big Block and a 250 shot of N20 and my side bar was stationary. Just the thought of having it made me feel safer. I want you guys know that next year there will be: THREE CLASSES OF HEADS UP RACING !!!!!!!!! ***One will be a Normally Aspirated 5.7 L (I will P & G your motor) to verify ***One will be a Normally Aspirated Stroker Class ***One will be again a QUICK 16 (run what you brung) Regards Chuck |

Honestly though, it would be worth it to me to go bust 2 10-second runs back-to-back and then be done for the day ![]() *sigh* But thanks for the rules!!! Still hoping I can make it to this thing.

Well, here come a lot of "IF's." If I get my car back together, and if it runs, and if the tranny works, and if the weather is good and if I don't break anything, and if I run a good ET someday in the near future, well, then I will post some pics of my various new mods including a chrome moly 5-point roll bar that I think fits very nicely in my Magnum without complicating access front or rear, only weighs about 60 lbs., and I believe sort of adds to the mystique of the thing. Of course, there's no accounting for taste, but then, I intend to be legal down to 10.0 and be able to run my Maggie where I please, when I please w/o a wink and a nod at the timeslip shack. I know, that's a lot of "If's," but there it is. I think it's fair admission to the 10-second club--IF I ever get there!

I hope to be back on the dyno a week from Saturday (so, I guess that'll be the 12th). I'll shoot some pics then. In the meantime, the car is up in the air at Felipe's garage. I'm having IPT rebuild the tranny in Jersey. When it gets back from Jersey, Felipe should have the CMJ killer package mounted and waiting. I'm putting a Stroud kevlar blanket on the tranny and an upgraded cooler. I'm adding a power steering fluid cooler, too. Finally, I'm doing some tweaks to the nitrous system and the cold air induction system. Back to Moroso the week of the 14th, I hope. At least, that's the plan.
I just wish I had not "ruined" my car with that nifty roll bar. Dang! When I die, my kids won't be able to get diddly for my Magnum. I guess they'll have to bury me in it after all! Last edited by lou1355; 04-02-2008 at 01:15 PM. |
