HID flickering fix.

I bought the Goldeneye HID kit for the 9006 low beam, and I had that flickering that many experience, so I did a search and found out about the capacitor needed to fix that problem as you can see here: http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=52775

The problem happens because the computer senses a 35W draw as opposed to a 55W draw and goes into diagnostic mode trying to figure out what's happening (I'm no expert, so feel free to elaborate)

If you buy any HID kit, you will need the relay wire harness to draw power straight from the battery as it will not work if the power is draw from the 9006 sockets.

The passenger side 9006 socket will be used to activate the relay switch of the HID harness to turn on your lights, but you will need to add a capacitor to that relay to fix the Wattage difference, (or you can use the marker lights wire to activate the switch and turn on your low beams, but you will lose the stock switch function of having marker lights on only, which I didn't want, because I wanted my marker lights to flash when locking/unlocking the car).

Here is the capacitor you need, you can get it a radio shack for $1.50 or so (get 2, 1 as a reserve)

Next and final step is to attach the capacitor to the relay of the harness kit that came with your HID kit, you need to locate terminal 86, which is Positive, and terminal 85, which is Negative, then you need to connect the long wire (Pos.) of the capacitor to terminal 86, and the short wire (Neg.) of the capacitor to terminal 85.
You can do that the easy way like I did, or try to solder it to the prongs, or the wires leading to the 85 and 86 terminals, it's up to you, but the way I did it allows quick and painless replacement of the capacitor if it burns out.

Here's the end result, very worthy of the time, money and effort.
Pictures taken with no flash, very dark outside.
Sylvania ST

HID 4300K

Final advice on HID lights from personal experience:
The lower the K, the brighter the lights will be, so 4300K is perfect, very bright and very white, 3000k is even brighter but is yellow, good for fog lights if you live in a place when it rains/snow a lot or is very foggy.
If you want some blue 6000K is ok too but it won't be as bright as 4300K.
Do not do high beam HID's, it won't be of any use, it takes a good 5 seconds for the HID bulbs to become bright and work, so if you do high beam HID, you won't be able to flash anymore, plus considering how bright low beams HID's are, you won't have any need for high beam HID's.

Sorry, but I didn't catch what kind/rating capacitor was needed in this install? Am I going blind?

thanks for the info...funny thing is even with the harness and the capacitor. I was still getting the flickering ...my problem was I needed a
new headlight switch ...I have a 05 300c and the headlight switch is different than the new ones they have now.. Dealership said that they were having problems with the old ones..so they redesigned the headlight switch and improved it....

I always had that problem, I still have my Hids but im not sure if they still work. I installed them awhile back now and it flickered then it shut off...My question is. Is my hid kit good or are they bad? I know that i need a wire harness and the capacitor but where do i connect the capacitor to? Also i dont want to buy another hid if the ones i have are still good..

Some good info here. I wonder if the same applies for the fog light HIDs, not that I am having a problem but just curious if anyone else is.

DAS Has flickerless HID kits with 1 year warranty... And they are less expensive than other units on the market that do have a flicker problem

Do they make 6000k replacement bulbs for the fog lights that don't require an HID setup ? All I want to do is match my the color of my halos.

WE have 6500 series bulbs but not 6000.

The 6000 are a pretty darn close to the halos... personally I cannot tell the difference on the rides I have done thus far... they look good.

I've had a few customers come to me with other companies kits and we install our 32volt ballest and it fixes their flickering issues. Some times we install our wiring harness if the customer wants it. PM me for more information if you would like.
